Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a crucial role in providing assistance and support to individuals with disabilities or special needs. Duties
- Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, grooming, and dressing.
- Provide patient care by monitoring health conditions and reporting any changes to healthcare professionals.
- Facilitate meal preparation and ensure that dietary needs are met according to individual preferences and restrictions.
- Support clients in engaging in social activities and community involvement to promote inclusion.
- Maintain a safe environment by adhering to resident rights and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
- Assist with heavy lifting as needed to help clients move or transfer safely.
- Document daily activities, progress, and any incidents accurately in client records.
Skills
- Proficiency in First Aid and CPR techniques is highly desirable.
- Experience in caregiving, home care, or assisted living settings is preferred.
- Strong understanding of resident rights and the ability to advocate for clients’ needs.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting tasks safely while ensuring client comfort.
- Compassionate approach towards patient care with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with nursing home environments is a plus.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with clients, families, and healthcare teams.
