Job Description: POSITION SUMMARY:
The Development Manager will be instrumental in leading the Epilepsy Foundation Central & South Texas (EFCST) to meet its annual fundraising goals while growing and diversifying its funding mix and base. This person will oversee and manage daily operations of the development department and Special Events/Communications team while engaging staff and board in expanding revenue streams to support special events, major gifts, planned to give, sponsorships, and donor cultivation. The Development Manager will increase, diversify the foundation portfolio and expand EFCST’s donor outreach, cultivation, and support from corporations, public and private organizations, and individuals.

PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Development Strategy and Implementation (approximately 10% of time):

Develop annual revenue goals and development plan to diversify and increase the organizational budget through a comprehensive development strategy to include foundation, corporate, and individual donors (major donor, smaller-level donors, online, etc.) and other appropriate sources.

Lead and engage senior management team, including Special Events and Communications staff, in developing compelling messages for new and diverse donor audiences.

Support and counsel the CEO, Board, Management, and staff in their development efforts.

Serve as a member of the senior management team.
Donor Cultivation- Sponsors/Individuals/Major Donors/Grants approximately 60% of time):

Lead efforts with the Communications and Special Events staff to identify and secure new donors, i.e., foundations, corporations, including outreach and substantive presentations to prospective funders about EFCST’s current programs and future projects to meet the Foundation’s annual development goal (approximately $700,000).

With the CEO, maintain and strengthen relationships with current funders and cultivate new donors.

Lead efforts in identifying and securing new events sponsors and individual/major donors at all levels.

With the CEO, the Communications and Events (C&E) Manager, C&E Associate, and other relevant staff, maintain and strengthen relationships with current donors to increase gift size, frequency and retention through donor / special events, social media, online, and direct mail streams and informal communication.

Support CEO, Management, and Board in their efforts to build and strengthen donor and prospect relationships and soliciting gifts.

Special Events (approximately 20% of time):
Support the Special Events and Communications Manager and Associate, support staff, and volunteers to coordinate and implement all EFCST special events.

Lead and support efforts in identifying and securing new event sponsors, donors, and attendees at all levels.

Support event promotions and EFCST public relations opportunities.

Management and Administration (approximately 5% of time):
Create and maintain new or existing fundraising databases using the organization’s CRM development software, including Virtuous, MobileCause, Salesforce.

Coordinate all development activities with staff and track progress against the annual development work plan and calendar.

Manage and strengthen development processes and systems, including recordkeeping, gift acknowledgments, renewals, mailings, and calendars.

Board Relations (approximately 5% of time):
Prepare development reports, including plans, accomplishments, and other key performance indicators for the CEO in advance of board meetings.

Support and encourage the Board’s development efforts.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:Essential Experience:
Preference for a minimum of 5-7 years of senior development experience.

Demonstrated experience in managing and implementing a successful, comprehensive fund development program and preparing an annual development work plan and calendar to achieve goals.

Experience in developing and implementing strategic and business plans.

Proven/quantifiable fundraising results that have resulted in direct/measurable increased revenue for the organization.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:
Strong leadership skills.

Track record of bringing innovative, creative thinking and fresh ideas to an organization or its services.

Demonstrated success in conducting outreach to prospective foundations/donors, arranging for organizational leadership to meet with prospective donors/foundations.

Highly self-motivated and able to work autonomously, take the initiative and make decisions.

Solid organizational skills: the ability to work productively in a fast-paced, detail-oriented, flexible, and collaborative environment and the ability to manage a multi-faceted workload.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree is preferred with an emphasis or concentration in business, marketing, public relations, or related fields. Equivalent training or experience will be considered.

A minimum of three years of professional development and fundraising experience.

Experience and contacts in Bexar and surrounding counties are a plus.

Advanced PC skills and expert proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Salesforce or donor database experience desirable).

Honed organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Commitment to EFCST’s core values and strategic direction. Desire to work as part of a team and willingness to promote the principles and views of the Epilepsy Foundation Central & South Texas.

Ability to work with minimal supervision – self-motivated & confident.

Ability to work well with people from all backgrounds with varying degrees of experience.

Ability to inspire, train, motivate, challenge, and supervise volunteers.

Confident public speaking and able to express ideas verbally and in writing.

HOURS OF WORK:
This is a full-time position. Typical working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; however, it is doubtful that a 40-hour workweek will yield the desired results to lead the team to successful outcomes. Some evenings and weekend work are required. Will occasionally participate in outdoor activities.

TRAVEL:
Some travel is required for this position. May occasionally drive a 15-passenger van. Must have a valid driver’s license and a driving record with no major driving offenses.
