Job Description
The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting the individual in achieving a challenging, stimulating, and dignified life by serving as an advocate and liaison for their rights and benefits. This includes helping them develop cooking, cleaning, and shopping skills, as well as accompanying them on outings into the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the individual in developing daily living skills, such as cooking and cleaning
- Accompany the individual on outings into the community
- Help the individual plan and adhere to a daily schedule
- Act as an advocate and liaison for the individual's rights and benefits
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following qualities and skills:
- Motivation and enthusiasm for working with individuals with disabilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred; one-year experience in the human service field preferred
- Valid New York State driver's license and reliable vehicle required
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Must be able to maintain current certifications with all required trainings
