Position Overview:
Episcopal School of Jacksonville is seeking a long-term substitute teacher in middle school English from March until May of this year. The position entails teaching two sections of seventh-grade English and two sections of eighth-grade English, as well as contributing generally to faculty-wide efforts throughout the semester. Episcopal is a collegial working environment, and individual engagement in collaborative efforts, professional growth, and leadership by example is a fixture of our faculty culture.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate field of study from a four-year college or university, or post-graduate work relevant to the subject matter.
Three years of teaching experience in an independent school setting is preferred for any teaching position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Mastery of the content and skills central to the teaching of English discipline; these include, but are not limited to: providing instruction in reading, writing, grammar, and critical thinking to middle school students; maintaining continuity in the curriculum; evaluating student work, including essays and other assessments; providing timely and constructive feedback to support student growth; fostering a positive and engaging classroom environment that encourages student participation; and supporting student learning in alignment with the school’s educational goals.
Passion for the teaching of English and an enthusiasm for working with Middle School students in a mission-centered learning environment.
Commitment to learner-centered practices.
Commitment to and engagement in collaborative work to achieve both department-specific and school-wide goals.
Deep and thorough knowledge of the subject matter of courses taught and a growth mindset in seeking and taking advantage of opportunities for continued learning and professional growth in your field at Episcopal.
Commitment to tracking student progress and communicating any concerns to administration and parents, as needed.
Evidence of building positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
Proficiency in using learning technology, and in particular with the core Google Suite products.
Lifelong investment in learning and growth.
