What are the responsibilities and job description for the Harvest Winemaking Assistant position at Epoch Estate Wines?
**Epoch Estate Wines** is seeking a dedicated and disciplined individual to join our team as a Harvest Winemaking Assistant. This temporary position will run from the beginning of harvest season until post-harvest, with dates subject to change based on vintage conditions.
Under the general direction of our winemaking team, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to become an integral member of our harvest team by gaining proficiency in all lab analysis performed during harvest, and providing support to our cellar by performing duties such as fermentation monitoring, additions, and inoculations.
- Perform ripeness analysis on incoming vineyard samples
- Perform routine wet chemistry analysis in an accurate and timely manner
- Perform harvest and post-harvest analysis using the Admeo Y15
- Record results accurately
- Collect samples from tanks and barrels during primary and malolactic fermentation
- Participate in lab general housekeeping
- Other duties as assigned by the winemaking team
Cellar Duties:
Assist with grape processing and sorting, including pressing and destemming tasks
Perform winery and equipment cleaning and sanitation
Manage inoculations and additions, such as yeast rehydration and nutrients
Assist with fermentation management, including pump-overs and punch downs
Barrel work and sampling, including racking, barrel down, and topping
Requirements:
To be considered for this role, you must possess previous lab experience and be reliable, energetic, and willing to work. You should also be able to follow both verbal and written instructions, be comfortable asking for help or clarification when needed, and be able to lift up to 50lbs on a repetitive basis. Additionally, you must be able to work overtime and weekends as needed, and possess a clean, current driver's license and own transportation.
The rate of pay for this position will be determined by your depth of experience and qualifications.
