What are the responsibilities and job description for the Corrosion Student Employee position at EPRI?
Job Title
Corrosion Student Employee
Location:
Charlotte, NC
Job Summary And Description
The overhead transmission system comprises materials that are susceptible to subgrade and atmospheric corrosion which degrades their mechanical strength and may result in mechanical failure of the overhead transmission line. To ensure safe and reliable power transmission, it is essential that we understand the impact of corrosion on the durability of line assets. The extent of this corrosion depends on multiple variables such as the materials used, soil chemistry, moisture, and stray currents.
Understanding the corrosion of an overhead transmission line requires an understanding of its surrounding environment and how the conductors, shield wires, hardware and structural components age because of those environmental factors.
We are looking for a Corrosion Student Employee to support technical staff in implementing tasks under their guidance and supervision. The successful candidate must be familiar with Microsoft Office Applications, scientific method, and laboratory procedures.
Key Job Functions
As an EPRI Student, you will not participate in EPRI’s Benefit Programs which includes health insurance, retirement benefits, vacation, sick leave (except as set required by law) and holiday pay. However, as a Student employee you are eligible for the benefits of Social Security, State Disability Insurance, and Workers’ Compensation Insurance.
For Student positions which require one to relocate to an EPRI office. Relocation assistance is not provided and the student will be responsible for covering all relocation costs/expenses.
EPRI participates in E-Verify, an online system operated jointly by the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration (SSA). EPRI uses the system to check the work status of new hires by comparing information from the employee's I-9 form against SSA and Department of Homeland Security databases.
EPRI is an equal opportunity employer. EEO/AA/M/F/VETS/Disabled
