Equine Athlete/ John Cummins is a fast-paced equine veterinary practice with satellite mobile locations in Michigan, North Texas, Kentucky, and California/Arizona, with our state-of-the-art diagnostic and surgical hospital located in Simpsonville, Kentucky.
Overview:
The Equine Veterinary Technician plays a crucial role in assisting equine veterinarians with a wide variety of clinical tasks, diagnostic procedures, and patient care for horses, particularly in a ambulatory setting. This position requires a skilled and compassionate individual who can effectively work in the field, has keen attention to detail, and is a hard worker.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with Procedures: Aid veterinarians in performing diagnostic tests, including but not limited to bloodwork, radiography, ultrasonography, and endoscopy. Also includes scrubbing and prepping horse for injections.
- Patient Care and Handling: Properly restrain and handle horses in various situations, ensuring safety and comfort for both the animal and the veterinary team.
- Maintain Equipment and Supplies: Ensure that all necessary medical equipment is prepared, sterilized, and functional, as well as stock inventory on the vehicle.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications in equine care or veterinary technology preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience working with horses or in a veterinary setting is required.
- Skills: Strong observational skills, attention to detail, ability to follow protocols, and excellent communication skills.
- Availability: Must be able to work long hours as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move equipment and supplies up to 50 lbs.
- Comfort with working in outdoor conditions and traveling to various locations.
- Ability to stand, kneel, and bend for extended periods while providing care to animals.
Work Environment:
- The role primarily involves working in the field, providing care to horses at farms, stables, shows, etc.
- Travel duties are required, including some weekends.
Compensation: Salary is based on experience. Holiday pay, health insurance, dental, vision, 401k, and paid time off also available after 90-day introductory period
