Overview:
The Area Sales Manager position will provide business development, sales and technical service to customers and potential customers throughout his/her area.
Interfaces:
- Position will report to the Regional Vice President or Regional Area Sales Manager.

Position will interface with (internal and external)
- Internal - Marketing, technical operations, operations, Paragon, technical coworkers, and upper management
- External - Owner agencies, consulting engineers, contractors, suppliers of materials for products, universities, and industry associations.
Responsibilities:
- Services existing accounts, obtains orders, and establishes new accounts by planning and organizing daily work schedules to call on existing or potential customers.
- Focuses sales efforts by being a resource and studying existing and potential customer's business model.
- Keeps management informed by submitting activity reports (bi-weekly basis), work plans, and monthly/annual territory analyses.
- Provides historical records by maintaining records on area and customer sales.
- Monitors competition by gathering current marketplace information on pricing, products, new products, delivery schedules, etc.
- Recommends changes in products, service, and policy by evaluating results and competitive developments based on regional strategies.
- Resolve customer complaints by investigating problems; developing solutions; preparing reports; making recommendations to management.
- Assist the Ergon's Technical Marketing Manager to identify, coordinate, participate, and support the establishing and maintaining of relationships with key state, district, and local specifying agencies' personnel.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional and industry associations.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Takes ownership of the business in his/her area.
- Provides communication to operations on forecasting and current status on volume.
- Additional expectations for specific territory listed above:
- Servicing these emulsion customers will include visits to all levels of the key customers. This includes senior management, project estimators, project managers, and project foremen.
- Servicing the Counties/Cities will include visits to all levels within the County/City Government structure such as Supervisors/Councilmen, Road Managers, County/City Engineers and County crews performing work.
- Assisting Ergon's Technical Marketing Manager in maintaining relationships with the agency contacts in their area.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree specific to marketing or business preferred.
- Industry Knowledge Desired
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and able to bend, stoop and kneel as needed.
- Able to wear proper PPE when required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Requires working in office conditions, performing some clerical work, working periodically outside in a manufacturing plant environment, with and around operational process equipment in temperature extremes for periods of time.
- Able to work around asphalt and other related chemicals on an ongoing basis.
- Able to provide job site and field support of projects.
- Able and willing to travel for business needs. The travel expectation for this position is 2 nights on average per week.
