Description of the Job:
Under supervision by the Landfill Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent. Responsible for maintaining clean landfill operations areas, site attendant duties, and assisting other personnel as directed.
Essential Functions to be Performed:
- Cleans interior and exterior areas of the Landfill as directed;
- Picks up paper and debris on Landfill grounds;
- Operates water truck;
- Cuts and sprays weeds, seeds, mows and fertilizes grounds;
- Directs traffic flow at unloading area;
- Assists in small purchases and receiving, storing and issuing of supplies, tools and equipment;
- Performs basic routine ground, vehicle and building maintenance and makes necessary repairs;
- Works irregular or expanded hours as required;\
- Notifies Superintendent when additional supplies, equipment or repairs are needed;
- Assists with leachate removal and gas collection systems.
- Performs duties of Scale Attendant as needed.
Other Functions to be Performed:
- Performs minor equipment maintenance such as changing oil, tightening bolts, lubricating, and sharpening; changes attachments; assists others in minor repair and maintenance of equipment;
- Operates broom, shovel, water hose, sprayer, and other related hand tools;
- Operates mowing equipment, small tractors, trucks, and related equipment;
- Operates heavy equipment as needed.
- Operates snow removal equipment and applies salt when required; keeps access roads in driving condition;
- Repairs erosion areas;
- Assists in maintaining inventory of equipment, supplies and vehicles;
- Communicates information to general public, personnel, contractors, suppliers, etc. responding to inquiries and complaints;
- May assist in orienting and training employees;
- May assist in an explanation of policies and procedures;
- Attends meetings and seminars;
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Performs Scale Attendant duties in their absence.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of the twelfth school grade or GED;
- One (1) year work experience dealing with the public
- Possession of Class B, Ohio Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Tanker Endorsement requires three written tests: (General Knowledge, Air Breaks and Tanker); or ability to obtain before end of the probation period
- Ability to spell and write legibly
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide;
- Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions;
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions;
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates and supervisors;
- Knowledge of county geography;
- Knowledge of office administration;
- Knowledge of safety rules and regulations;
- Knowledge of public relations.
- Operate a computer
Physical Requirements:
- Lift/carry a minimum of eighty-five (85) pounds.
- Reaching with bilateral upper extremities into/up to/down to various heights.
- Bend, stoop, and squat.
- Push/pull with twenty-five (25) pounds of initial force.
- Climb ladders/stairs.
- Able to withstand extreme temperatures and vibration exposure with equipment tool use.
- Operate heavy equipment.
