ERM is hiring a mid-level GIS Scientist to join our Portland, OR or Seattle, WA office. The mid-level GIS Scientist will join an existing team of professionals to leverage environmental data management and geospatial technologies in support of our core services. These include impact assessment, environmental planning and permitting, energy infrastructure studies, health and safety, and site investigation and remediation related services.
We are seeking a self-starting, well-organized individual with problem-solving skills who can adapt to a fluid work environment. The applicant should have experience with GIS data visualization, figure development, building applications for web and mobile. ERM is looking for an individual who also has professional experience automating GIS workflows to help make tasks more efficient and assist in maintaining the quality of spatial data. The GIS Scientist will be part of a team of scientists and GIS Scientists on a several small and large projects. It is critical that the applicant is agile and think of out-of-the-box concepts for development, design, and maintenance of GIS data and spatial analysis.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with a multidisciplinary team to ensure GIS and data and figure deliverables meet or exceed our clients’ needs.
- Publish and maintain ArcGIS web-based map services and applications, and integration with existing environmental database systems and tools.
- Maintain geodatabase systems and geoprocessing tools.
- Organize and manage project data, analysis, and mapping following company protocols and industry best practices.
- Prioritize, organize, perform, and direct numerous work assignments in a fast-paced, client-oriented environment.
- Expand digital capabilities by exploring and integrating new technologies and software, plus ways to improve existing methods, tools, and workflows.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in geography, GIS, programing, natural sciences or comparable field. Or equivalent experience.
- Experience designing and developing ArcGIS Online web maps and customized web apps utilizing ArcGIS Enterprise.
- 2 years of professional GIS experience, preferably in an environmental field.
- Experience with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Web Application Builder
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in visual and design presentation for project deliverables (maps, charts, graphs, tables, and other visualizations).
- Ability to work effectively with others in a team environment to deliver quality projects on time and within budgets.
- Self-motivated, quick learning, curious, resourceful, and flexible individual with a common-sense approach to conducting business and workload management.
- Ability to use environmental data and developing applications for visualization, analysis, and presentation of environmental data.
- Ability to work independently and learn new technologies.
PREFERRED:
- Advanced degrees and/or certifications in GIS and/or database design.
- Knowledge of environmental databases, including earthsoft’s EQuIS data management system.
- Advanced experience with data management including organizing and maintaining complex projects containing geospatial and tabular data, custom tools and toolboxes, analysis output, maps, and SQL enterprise geodatabases.
- Experience using ArcGIS Pro in a production setting, creating Python geoprocessing tools for ArcPro.
- Experience building, deploying, and supporting Esri mobile applications such as Collector, Survey123, Field Maps, and Dashboard.
- Experience interpreting analytical data in soil and groundwater, interpolating potentiometric surfaces and understanding remediation designs.
