This class drives and operates larger, more varied, and more complex road construction and maintenance-of-way equipment, as assigned daily.
This is a "mandatory-testing" position that requires Drug Testing.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Operates a wide variety of medium to heavy equipment, which may include: bulldozers, excavators, compactors, tractor-trailers, water trucks, backhoes, jackhammers, asphalt saws, front-end loaders, dump trucks, tub grinders, roll-off trucks, and/or other related equipment
Performs routine cleaning and preventive maintenance on applicable vehicles and equipment; prepares and maintains related records
Assists in repairing heavy equipment and vehicles
Prepares, updates, and maintains a variety of logs, records, and/or equipment maintenance schedules
Performs traffic control for vehicles and equipment
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
Positions assigned to the Landfill may be responsible for:
Examining, recognizing, and screening municipal, special, and household hazardous waste entering the landfill facility
Working/handling solid waste in accordance with best management practices relative to Solid Waste Management
Assisting customers with questions and concerns
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Training and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and at least one year of equipment operation or road construction experience; or, a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Florida Commercial Driver's License and special endorsements, if required, for the type of equipment operated
Exception: A licensed driver who lives in another state and travels regularly to work in Florida may maintain Operator's/Commercial Driver's license in state of residency.

Equipment maintenance and repair principles and practices

Operating a variety of medium to heavy equipment
Performing preventive maintenance to applicable equipment

Emergency Management Responsibilities:
During emergency conditions, the incumbent of this position will automatically be considered an emergency service worker. This employee is subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and is expected to perform emergency service duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, finger and hand dexterity as well as repetitive motions. Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, oils, extreme temperatures, work space restrictions, intense noises and travel.
