SUMMARY :
The DME (Durable Medical Equipment) Coordinator plays a vital dual role in supporting patient care and clinical operations. The DME Coordinator processes requests for durable medical equipment (DME) for patients. As part of these duties, the DME coordinator interacts with patients about DME requests; consults medical clinicians for clinical decision-making regarding DME; assists in the creation of prescription letters for DME; interacts with DME suppliers about these requests; maintains up-to-date documentation of the requirements for EHC payers for DME; and serves as a resource for care teams for DME-related questions.
In addition to the DME Coordinator responsibilities, you will also perform a wide variety of Medical Assistant duties in support of the clinicians and in the provision of safe and whole person care to our patients. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.) In the DME Coordinator role, Provide Services to Patients.
- Receives requests from patients requesting DME supplies.
- Receives requests from clinicians and nurses requesting DME supplies.
- As able, prepare prescription letters for DME supplies, under standing orders.
- Consults with clinicians as necessary for clinical decision-making on the appropriateness of the request and on diagnoses to support prescription.
- Interacts with DME suppliers regarding requests as needed.
- Faxes and documents in electronic health record DME requests and status updates.
- Completes and follows-up on documentation.
- Maintains up-to-date documentation on Shared X drive on payer eligibility and documentation requirements for payers accepted at EHC.
- Serves as resource team member for care teams for DME requests.
