Job Summary
The Surgical Coordinator plays a crucial role for managing the administrative aspects of surgical procedures, including scheduling surgeries, coordinating patient care throughout the surgical process, verifying insurance benefits, obtaining necessary authorizations, and ensuring all required documentation is completed, acting as a liaison between the patient, physician, and surgical facility to facilitate a smooth surgical experience.
Duties
- Patient scheduling:Coordinating surgery dates and times with patients, surgeons, and surgical facilities based on availability.
- Pre-operative preparation:Reviewing patient medical history, obtaining necessary pre-operative tests, and ensuring all required paperwork is completed.
- Insurance verification and authorization:Checking patient insurance benefits and obtaining pre-certification for surgical procedures.
- Patient education:Providing detailed information about the surgical process, including pre and post-operative instructions to patients.
- Communication with healthcare team:Coordinating with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth surgical flow.
- Medical record management:Maintaining accurate patient records including surgical details, test results, and post-operative notes.
- Billing and financial coordination:Discussing potential costs with patients, managing billing codes, and addressing insurance concerns.
- Follow-up care:Scheduling post-operative appointments and monitoring patient recovery.
