Due to the growth and increasing diversity of project types, WSB is seeking to hire an emerging professional landscape architect/designer focused on execution of work. Our team has envisioned the ideal candidate possessing the following strengths and attributes to be successful:
What You Will Do:
Software Competencies (in order of most common anticipated use in this position):
- Autodesk CAD Software: Utilizing Civil 3D to prepare site layout and grading plans. Experience creating surfaces for grading and additional tools such as AutoTurn and Land FX. Learning, understanding and applying company CAD standards and processes and overall plan production acumen is highly desirable.
- Microsoft Office: Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point.
- Adobe Creative Suite: Utilizing programs such as Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator to prepare visualizations, vector art and report writing is desired.
- Bluebeam Revu: Use of this program for quality control review and check-set revision tracking.
- SketchUp: For exploring design solutions and developing visualizations to communicate design intent to the client.
- D5 (or Lumion): For the preparation of high-quality graphic visualizations, both static and dynamic.
- ArcGIS: WSB has a separate GIS group, so professional experience in this software for basic mapping and analysis is not required but would be a plus.
What You Will Bring:
Design & Planning Competencies (in order of most used skills in this position):
- Spatial Design Skills: Ability to create and explore different concepts of design based on a design program. Concepts will include 2D layout and spatial standards, incorporation of 3D (vertical) design through technical and aesthetic grading, and use of plant material for visual interest, and function. Exploration of solutions through both hand and computer-based tools.
- Planning Skills: Development of site-specific or small area plans that consider land use patterns, placemaking, and economic vitality.
- Planting Plans: Preparation of planting plans consisting of regionally appropriate plant materials, researching ordinances and codes and meeting those requirements through the planting plan.
- Site Layout Plans: Preparation of site layout plans utilizing industry-standard dimensioning, northing-easting methods.
- Grading and Drainage Plans: Preparation of grading and drainage plans that incorporate surface treatment, underground piping, storm water treatment. Ability to perform grading calculations with project manager oversight.
- Detailing: Exploration of design details for construction.
- Irrigation Plans: Preparation of irrigation plans is not a core competency, but candidates with this expertise will be considered a plus.
- Technical Specifications: This position does not require existing expertise in technical specification writing, but experience in writing specifications will be considered a plus.
- Preparation of Opinions of Probable Cost: WSB has a construction cost estimating group, however, there will be projects where the position will require preparing quantity take-offs and researching unit pricing for small projects.
Interpersonal Relationships:
- Adaptability: This position will require working with several different project managers and project teams. The ability to learn and adjust to different methodologies and design approaches is common in this position.
- Focus: This position requires effective time management skills to execute work on several different projects simultaneously.
- Learner/Curiosity: Design is a process and acknowledgment that more than one approach can solve the problem. The successful candidate must have the confidence to ask questions for clarification and research potential solutions.
- Responsibility: Demonstration of commitment to company values, attention to business goals and group initiatives. Articulation of personal goals and tracking implementation.
Education and Experience:
- The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited Landscape Architecture school and 2 – 4 years industry experience. Professional licensure is not required, but would be considered a plus.
Travel:
- While travel is not anticipated frequently, the successful candidate may be required to drive or travel to different locations in Texas / Oklahoma or other states depending on project needs.
