What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant position at Estes Express Lines?
Job Summary:
- Review and approve Fuel Invoices for payment
- Prepare Personal Property Tax returns, monthly Mileage Reports and quarterly IFTA return
- Prepare Off Road Fuel Credit returns with various taxing authorities, Heavy Highway Use Tax filings, ensuring accuracy/timeliness and good-standing with taxing authorities
- Prepare assigned general ledger journal entries, account reconciliations and selected period-end report
- Assist with various other projects, to include local, state and federal audits,
- Research state and local tax laws pertaining to Common Carriers
- Regular attendance is required.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university, or any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background
- 1 year experience in an accounting/finance capacity required, in lieu of a finance or accounting degree
- Ability to extract data, manipulate data and prepare reports required
- Knowledge of trucking and/or transportation preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with proven history of working well with others in a team environment
- Ability to manage assigned projects from start to completion with strong attention to detail and quality
- Excellent organizational skills a must
- Strong computer knowledge and skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and internet tools and applications
- Positive, proactive customer service oriented attitude
- Ability to learn new software
- Must be able to lift approximately 20 lbs., or more if required by the essential functions of the job
- Must be able to comply with all company policies, rules, procedures and Code of Conduct
- Must be able to interact well with others
- Must be able to work independently, or in a team setting
- Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high volume environment with multiple priorities
- Responds well to questions; Ability to read, interpret and comply with written information and documents such as safety rules, operations / procedure manuals and maintenance instructions with a high comprehension and concentration level to include the ability to meet deadlines
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, random drug and/or alcohol tests, and will be subject to a criminal history background check
