POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION TITLE: Director of Student Organizations and Commuter Services
DEPARTMENT: ESU Student Activity Association, Inc. (SAA)
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Student Organizations and Commuter Services is a dynamic and experienced leader who empowers over 100 student organizations to thrive and contribute to a vibrant campus community. This full-time, exempt position guides a 50-seat student government, cultivates enriching experiences for commuter students, and supports key campus events and traditions. The Director fosters student leadership development and collaborates extensively with faculty, staff, and community partners. This role requires flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to support student activities and events. Occasionally, the position may require travel and driving vehicles.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Student Organization Management
Oversee and ensure compliance of student organization operations as they relate to ESU and SAA policies and procedures that include, but are not limited to, community service reporting, fundraiser registration, and activity promotion/calendar.
Manage the student engagement platform (WarriorLink-Anthology Engage), ensuring data accuracy, timely updates, and efficient processing of student organization submissions.
Develop and implement leadership and operational training programs to enhance student organization officer and advisor effectiveness.
Facilitate successful program implementation by student organizations by providing expert guidance on best practices, navigating campus procedures, and efficiently processing work orders.
Manage and administer the annual student organization registration process, overseeing the verification of membership rosters and ensuring compliance with SAA policies using Warriorlink.
Provide training opportunities and information to Advisors for them to best serve their organization.
Oversee the new student organization recognition process from initial inquiry to recognition by the Student Government Association.
Coordinate and implement recruiting and promotion events such as Involvement Fair, fall new student orientation (The 308), and End of the Year Extravaganza.
Assist the Director of SAA Business Services with the annual student organization budget allocation process.
Collaborate with the Student Government Association to regularly review and update the SGA Student Organization Handbook.
Student Government Association Advising
Empower and guide the student government to represent the student body.
Develop and train officers, chairs, and senators to successfully fill their roles representing their campus peers as well as directly oversee the SGA President’s summer internship.
Supervise and advise the SGA operations including creation, documentation, and maintenance of records, documents, budgets, and meetings as well as requisitions and expenditures.
Support implementation and supervision of senator, chair, and officer campaigns, elections, and appointments as defined by the SGA constitution.
Commuter Student Connections
Cultivate a welcoming and inclusive environment for commuter students.
Develop and implement targeted outreach strategies, including newsletters, campus media, events, and programming, to connect commuter students with essential resources, campus services, and enriching experiences.
Oversee Commuter Assistant Program to incorporate commuter student advocacy, collect feedback, and enhance commuter experience.
Supervise the University Center’s commuter lounge and commuter office by ensuring regulations are being followed and maintaining amenities.
Assessment and Collaboration
Administer and document regular assessments that include student learning outcomes, event results, program reviews, monthly and annual reports, participation tracking, and return on investment.
Implement practices that support the University’s recruitment, retention, and progression of ESU students.
Develop co-sponsored and complementary programs that enhance the development of the whole person and provide positive campus life experiences as well as form strong network ties within the Division of Campus Life and Inclusive Excellence, student organizations, departments, programming committees, and community organizations.
Serve on University committees and task forces that include but not limited to Warrior Induction, Family Weekend, Homecoming, Programing Board, and WESS 93.5 Radio Station.
Maintain professional competency and departmental benchmarking through attending conferences, developing professional contacts, enhancing multicultural competence, and learning through self-directed opportunities as well as supervising student delegates at conferences.
Establish regular meetings with Fraternity and Sorority Life, Campus Rec and Wellness, and the Center for Multicultural Affairs and Inclusive Education departments to coordinate joint initiatives and maximize student organization support.
Contribute to the overall success of the Student Activity Association and East Stroudsburg University by supporting related initiatives and projects.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in student affairs, higher education, leadership, or related field of study
One year of professional experience in planning, developing, and implementing events or programs, preferably within a higher education setting, including managing budgets and logistics for events.
Experience advising organizations, including membership management, budget oversight, and leadership development.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, leadership, or related field of study.
Three or more years of postgraduate experience in student activity programming or related college student advising functions in a higher education setting.
Experience advising student organizations, including membership management, budget oversight, and leadership development.
Experience planning and executing events with budgets of $2000 or more and attendance of 200 or more with success in marketing and promotion.
Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing strategic plans, effectively delegating tasks, and resolving conflicts in a professional setting.
Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive campus environment and promoting a sense of belonging for all students.
Proficiency in student engagement platforms (e.g., Anthology Engage, CampusLabs, Ready Educate), event management software, social media, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Demonstrate commitment to continued professional development in leadership and multicultural competence.
Ability to effectively communicate in a concise manner to a variety of audiences.
Physical Requirements*
Ability to bend and squat; and stand or sit for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Must have a valid state issued driver’s license.

Salary & Benefits
Salary is commensurate with experience. Hiring range is $55,000–$65,000/annually. SAA offers an excellent benefits package.
