DEFINITION
Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services or the designee, to plan, organize, coordinate and participate in the accounting and fiscal record management and reporting activities and functions; reviews, audits and performs complex and specialized accounting, financial record management and reporting functions; to relieve the department head of administrative detail; and to do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Positions in this class are responsible for processing accounting and budget functions including state and federal reporting and for various functions of the accounting and budget cycle which include, but are not limited to, budget transfers, journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, categorical grant/entitlement monitoring, purchasing, stores, asset management, bids, leases and payroll. This class requires a complete working knowledge of the business office functions to which assigned and the use of good judgment in making a variety of related decisions. Incumbent may assist in providing training and instruction in coordination the work of others. Employees in this class receive limited supervision within the framework of policies and procedures, which include, but are not limited to, the knowledge and application of appropriate laws, regulations, and policies. The job class assists in the recommendations for policy and procedural changes related to the business services division. Those employed in this class are assigned duties which require considerable experience related to this specialized area. The work requires considerable judgment in assembling, evaluating, and communicating information. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in accounting, payroll, purchasing or fiscal related activities, preferably involving some experience with public agencies; equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by college training in accounting, purchasing or a directly related field; or any combination of training and / or experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities.
Must be able to type at a corrected speed of 40 wpm.
