Responsible for the ongoing engineering support and new product development for the product lines assigned, including determining the functional design characteristics necessary to assure safety, operational performance, maintainability, manufacturability, reliability, and cost levels required of the product line.
Essential Function:
- Working with engineering teams, Product Engineers, Mechanical Designers and Manufacturing, helping to develop and document clear product designs for both new and existing product lines
- Develop and model designs in SolidWorks
- Produce initial production cost estimates and bills of material
- Produce manufacturing documentation, including but not limited to drawings with pertinent BOMs, and process instructions
- Work with Production Team on shop floor to resolve production issues efficiently and effectively
- Provides descriptions of components, assemblies, and machines to production and inventory control.
- Provides technical assistance to sales and marketing, customer service, production, inventory control, manufacturing engineering, and engineering test/reliability departments.
Required Skills/Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with a strong mechanical background
- Proficient with SolidWorks CAD software is a must with a minimum of 5 years experience, good parametric modeling techniques, and bottoms-up design
- Strong experience in detail drafting and communicating design intent is required.
- Proficient with basic measuring equipment and processes
- Basic Knowledge of manufacturing processes/practices, machining, welding, sheet metal and shop tools
- Ability to design for manufacturability and serviceability, as well as think outside of the box to produce viable solutions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with Production Team and Vendors on new product design and production issue resolution
- Experience using Microsoft Office tools, excel, word, & PowerPoint
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- Modeling with surfaces and sheet metal features in SolidWorks
- Knowledge in Welding processes, tooling & fixture design would be a big plus
- Some basic electronics experience wiring harnesses would be a plus
- Some experience in hydraulics and pneumatics
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate in Applied Science (AAS) Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent in education or experience is required. A broad understanding of machine structures, mechanisms, metal fabrication, and other manufacturing processes is required. An understanding of hydraulics, electronics or electrical systems, pneumatics, and machine controls may also be required depending on product line assignment. Strong proficiency in 3-D CAD with 5 years of experience utilizing SolidWorks is required.
