Position Summary
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Philanthropy Officer at the Eugene Family YMCA intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined while serving as a key member of the YMCA’s fundraising team, responsible for securing $1M annually through major gifts. This role focuses on identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual donors and family foundations capable of gifts of $10K and above. This position manages a portfolio of major donors and prospects, and works collaboratively with the Philanthropy team to advance the Y’s mission and ensure financial sustainability. Success in these areas has a high, and sustained, impact on the Y’s long-term financial health and ability to achieve organizational strategic priorities.
Essential Functions

Utilize a strategic moves-management approach to deepen relationships with donors and secure major and planned gifts.

Conduct face-to-face meetings with major gift donors and prospects, maintaining consistent follow-up to nurture engagement and trust.

Partner with the VP of Philanthropy, board members, Y leadership, and volunteers to engage them in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts.

Provide leadership to fundraising committees, guiding prospect identification, cultivation, and solicitation processes.

Research prospective donors and identify opportunities to expand the major gift pipeline.

Maintain detailed records of donor interactions, contributions, and engagement strategies in Donor Perfect.

Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications team to create compelling donor proposals and impact reports.

Ensure exceptional recognition and stewardship practices for major donors, reinforcing their connection to the Y’s mission.

Attend Y and community events to represent the organization and build relationships with potential donors.

Work collaboratively with team members to align fundraising goals with broader organizational priorities.

Has regular interactions to create, negotiate, and enact strategically important agreements, requiring considerable tact, sense of timing and the ability to engender trust, plus sensitivity to diverse audiences. These relationships impact the future financial success of the entire Y.

Support the VP of Philanthropy in meeting strategic objectives and advancing a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization.

Help create organizational best practices and systems that remove barriers and foster equity and inclusion for all.

Develop, and recommend to the Y’s VP of Philanthropy, new approaches to helping the Y significantly expand and differentiate our philanthropic areas from our previous successes.

Handle and resolve concerns or questions in an empathetic and professional manner; informs supervisor of unusual situations or unresolved issues.

Participate in various standing committees and temporary task forces as needed.

Within 90 days of hire, complete all mandatory trainings.

Must maintain a current, valid Oregon driver’s license, a DMV driving record that meets YMCA standards, and evidence of insurability throughout entire term of employment.

Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the Y.
Minimum Qualifications

At least two years of formal training in relevant areas and related fields beyond high school

At least 6.5 years of successful experience in major gift cultivation and solicitation, preferably within a nonprofit

Previous experience successfully securing individual gifts of $25,000 or more
Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience with planned giving vehicles

Previous experience with engaging donors in legacy giving conversations

Previous experience working in philanthropy for a YMCA

Bilingual in Spanish/English
