What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part Time Maintenance Assistant position at Eureka Parks and Recreation Department?
General Purpose
The part-time seasonal Maintenance Assistant will be responsible for maintenance and repairs for all for all buildings, athletic fields, grounds and facilities within the Eureka park system. Must have the ability to perform semi-skilled and skilled physically demanding work as well as operate some machinery and equipment.
Supervision Received
Works under the general supervision of the Director of Parks and Recreation and other City supervisory staff, as directed.
Duties, Responsibilities and Expectations
Responsible for assisting staff in maintaining and repairing athletic facilities, including, but not limited to; restroom maintenance, manual labor such as shoveling and raking, landscape maintenance, construction, fencing repair and other general maintenance functions.
Responsible for landscaping, fertilizing and overall beautification of park grounds.
Perform routine inspections of parks and facilities and report unsafe conditions to supervisor.
Maintenance, beautification, cleaning and general upkeep of City owned parks, playgrounds, buildings and other facilities.
Responsible for the maintenance and repairs of park facilities, including, but not limited to; restroom maintenance, manual labor such as shoveling and raking, landscape maintenance, construction, fencing repair and other general maintenance functions.
Responsible for maintaining playground equipment, maintenance of playground surfacing, inspections of equipment for safety and for general cleanliness and safety of the playground areas.
Assist with the setup of special events and recreational programs.
Responsible for the care and enhancement of trees including, but not limited to; removal of dead trees, deadwooding live trees, planting new trees, transplanting, pruning, fertilizing, watering and general care of all trees within the system as directed.
Performs emergency duties related to flooding and relief efforts, water main breaks and roadway obstructions.
Responds to public inquiries, comments and actions. Provides information and refers to appropriate City representative.
Operates light to heavy equipment.
Other duties as requested or required.
Desired Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
High School diploma or equivalent.
Valid Missouri Driver’s License.
Ability to work weekends, nights and some holidays. Ability to be on call.
Two years related work experience or other equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to understand, carry out, and give oral and written instructions and follow posted schedules.
Ability to work with minimal daily supervision.
Ability to learn and follow City policies.
Ability to perform child and adult CPR and first aid.
Knowledge of methods, materials and tools used in general maintenance of parks.
Skill based techniques of construction repairs and maintenance.
Ability to operate department vehicles and heavy equipment.
Ability to perform heavy manual work requiring good physical condition.
Skill based techniques of construction repairs and maintenance including calculated measurements, setting proper grades, materials usage, work site notices and quality requirements.
Perform construction activities and job responsibilities during emergency and non-emergency conditions.
