Description
The Transportation / Logistics Supervisor will have knowledge of supply chain management and an understanding of warehouse procedures, including storing perishable and non-perishable goods, dispatching orders and tracking transportation vehicles. He/she must be familiar with safety processes and all DOT legal regulations, ensuring that all shipments are handled quickly, safely and within budget.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and supervise the shipments to the customer
- Schedule daily and weekly routes, drivers, and trucks (the supervisor will be responsible for 2 or 3 routes per week)
- Report maintenance and repair needs for transportation vehicles and equipment
- Research and suggest cost-effective shipping methods
- Conduct regular safety audits on equipment
- Organize training sessions for drivers as required by DOT and OSHA regulations
- Keep organized records of vehicles, schedules and completed orders
- Ensure compliance with company policies and shipping legislation
- Stay up-to-date with safety regulations
- Work with internal sales and purchasing team members
Working Conditions
- Ability to move/lift to 50 lbs.
- Ability to withstand variable temperatures in a typical food warehouse environment
- Position spends 6 – 8 hours standing, walking, lifting, pulling and pushing
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years experience driving a 26-foot box truck
- At least 2 years of supervisory experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Good management skills, including the ability to lead and motivate others, delegate work and explain ideas
- Excellent planning and organizing skills
- The ability to work as part of a team
- The ability to inspire, motivate and lead a team of people
- Working knowledge of ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to work on a tactical and strategic level
- The ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
