Evans & Dixon is currently seeking to add a Law Clerk to our expanding & fast-paced Overland Park office. As a Law Clerk, you will be responsible for preparing letters and documents, generating and completing forms, running and managing files, and maintaining filing. This position is perfect for a 2nd or 3rd year law student. If you have the drive and passion to work in the legal field, this is a perfect way to gain some firsthand experience! What you'll do:
As a Law Clerk, you will provide administrative, litigation and ongoing research support to your team of attorneys, paralegals, and supporting legal staff.
- Legal Research: You will research legal issues, regulations, legal articles, and relevant supporting laws by using online and offline sources.
- Record Keeping: File and organize exhibitions, briefs, appeals, and other legal documents. Maintain all records for each case.
- Copyright: Support attorney(s) in pursuing claims for copyright infringement by conducting research, communicating with infringers and their insurance or attorney, and tracking a high-volume claims practice using Salesforce.
- Trial Prep: Assist attorney(s) in preparation for hearings and trials by preparing arguments, motions, contracts, and agreements. You will summarize interrogatories, testimonies, and depositions.
- Investigate: Aid the attorney(s) by calling clients, witnesses, lawyers, and outside parties to schedule interviews, meetings and depositions.
- Administrative Support: Support the attorney(s) by obtaining affidavits and other formal legal documents, reviewing trial transcriptions, and monitoring the attorney's deadlines and calendars.
What we're looking for:
- Ability to communicative effectively with senior management, outside counsel, insurance adjusters and clients
- Working knowledge of contract formation, preparation, negotiation, review, and drafting skills
- Working knowledge of legal research using online and offline sources
- Working knowledge of legal terminology and legal writing
- Ability to interact with individuals of all levels, prioritize tasks and work in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Education & Qualifications:
- Must be an active law student in their second or third year
- Prior experience in the legal field is preferred, but not required
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Ability to work on tasks without micromanagement from attorneys
