Position Summary:
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for ensuring that Everbrite Business Units are running safely and efficiently; working with the EHS Manager to plan, direct, and implement Everbrite EHS programs to ensure a positive, safe, healthy, and incident-free work environment. Responsible for compliance with all environmental and safety regulatory agencies. The EHS Specialist supports management by adhering to and enforcing company EHS policies and conducting business in a manner that supports the company’s objectives as outlined in the business plan. The EHS Specialist is responsible for assuring that all employees conduct their job duties in a safe manner, avoiding injury, and encouraging an atmosphere where employees feel free to immediately bring any unsafe acts or conditions to management’s attention for resolution.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate daily, weekly, and monthly metrics to report to onsite management teams and corporate-based reporting systems.
- Facilitate organization and leadership development efforts to address the root cause of EHS-related issues.
- Conduct risk assessments related to jobs performed by employees and suggest risk mitigation strategies through Job Hazards Analysis process.
- Train and assist others (managers, employees, etc.) to complete their safety and compliance responsibilities (audits, follow safety rules, etc.).
- Conduct appropriate inspections and audits, and ensure corrective actions are monitored and documented.
- Complete and document all regulatory compliance activities through the EHS Calendar according to regulatory deadlines.
- Conduct EHS training as needed, including new employee and contractor orientation.
- Respond to and investigate events; including injuries and near-miss events. Drive closure of effective corrective / preventative actions as assigned.
- Conduct environmental compliance site audits of facility non-hazardous waste and solid waste collection and storage sites, as assigned.
- Participate in and implement general administrative programs such as employee training, employee relations, safety, and enforcement of company rules and regulations for the assigned departments/facility.
- Respond to emergency situations when they arise.
- Handle employee complaints and grievances as they relate to EHS.
- Represent the company with regulatory agencies such as OSHA, EPA, Local Fire Department, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements / Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in science or related field.
- Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, listening, and customer service skills with the ability to effectively communicate and work well with others to manage projects, meetings, etc.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence people and drive change.
- Work well independently and in a group environment.
- Ability to effectively deliver training.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Familiarity working with various office equipment, computers and various programs including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, cloud-based systems, networking, and e-mail programs.
