Position Summary
The Legal Department is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Legal Intern to join our team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the legal aspects of compliance while also contributing to the mission-driven work of a values-driven organization. We would work with the intern to ensure appropriate exposure to legal projects and documents to facilitate an understanding of the responsibilities of an in-house attorney.
Responsibilities:
- Documentation Review & Analysis:
Assist in reviewing and analyzing contracts and policies to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. - Documentation Management:
Assist in maintaining organized and up-to-date records, including contracts, policies, and compliance reports. - Administrative Support:
Provide general administrative support to the legal and compliance teams, such as scheduling meetings, preparing documents, and assisting with special projects, as needed. - Policy System:
Assist with the organization of existing policies, updating the renewal schedule, identifying policies for review, and facilitating the review process. - Standard Operating Procedures (for legal department):
Assist in organizing the storage system and helping team members draft and revise SOPs. - Legal Workflows:
Help develop and implement workflows for regular legal department tasks such as contract intake and reviewing and revising health documents. - Standardizing Forms:
Help ID existing forms for the library, facilitate updating of forms, and help develop and implement a library/workflow accessible to regular users of form contracts. - Legal Files Organization (shared drive):
Help organize and clean up existing legal files on the shared drive, and identify unstored documents, and file them on the shared drive. - Legal and Regulatory Updates:
Help review and summarize applicable legal and regulatory updates for affected departments. - Standard Disclosures:
Help develop a “disclosure” matrix for various products and lines of business for marketing purposes.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate student with some interest in law school
- Strong analytical, creative, and problem-solving skills
- Detail-oriented with strong communication skills
- Able to quickly learn new IT applications (e.g., Microsoft, contract software)
- Ability to work with clients, staff, and/or consultants as necessary
- Self-motivated to work well independently or in a team environment
- Exceptional time management
Hours: 30-40 hours per week (flexible)
Location: Goshen, IN
