Project Accountant
Position Summary The Project Accountant is responsible for overseeing all accounting functions and job administration for assigned projects. This role involves close collaboration with Project Managers and Project Controls Analysts to ensure proper project set-up, monitor monthly progress, investigate variances, and ensure timely project billing. The Project Accountant will interact with both internal and external clients as needed. This position reports to the Project Accounting Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and maintain project accounts, including contract review, project number creation, and budget entry in the accounting system.
- Interpret contract terms related to compensation, overhead rates, and revenue recognition methods.
- Generate and review monthly pre-bills and work status reports according to the designated billing cycle.
- Prepare, edit, and finalize invoices, ensuring accuracy in fees, subconsultants, and expenses, while incorporating necessary revisions from Project Managers.
- Submit client invoices in compliance with contract terms, ensuring timely and accurate billing.
- Assist Project Managers in project closeout by verifying that all efforts have been billed and collected.
- Meet month-end financial reporting deadlines and resolve any discrepancies as required.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
- Respond to client and internal inquiries regarding invoicing, corporate insurance policies, and other financial matters via email, phone, or in person.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 3–5 years of invoicing and accounts receivable experience, or a combination of relevant experience and training.
- Software Proficiency: Experience with Vantagepoint accounting software preferred; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Teams required.
- Skills: Strong attention to detail, ability to manage multiple priorities, and excellent time management skills to meet deadlines.
Education & Experience
- Must be deadline-driven with excellent time management skills.
- Knowledge of Vantagepoint accounting software is preferred.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Teams.
- 3 to 5 years of prior invoicing and accounts receivable experience or any combination of experience and/or training that provides the required knowledge of essential duties.
