What are the responsibilities and job description for the Homeless Shelter Assistant position at Everett Gospel Mission?
The 2020 Shelter Assistant is a member of the 2020 shelter team with the objective to support the Everett Gospel Mission. You will be assisting clients while establishing and maintaining an environment for that is consistent with EGM values.
Specific duties include the monitoring of client activities, cultivating a culture of safety and security, and general housekeeping/cleaning. The schedule for this position is shift-based, and we are looking for full time and part time employees.
Day shifts are from 7:00am-3:00pm. Evening shifts are from 3:00pm-11:00pm. Overnight shifts are from 11:00pm- 7:00am. Successful candidates must have ability to cover various shifts, including weekends and holidays. This position reports to the Shelter Manager. Experience working with at-risk populations is a plus! This position will start with a shift of Thursday - Sunday, 3pm-11:30pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage residents for onsite compliance such as chore completion and other rules and protocols.
- Reviewing and documenting any safety issues or repairs that need to be completed.
- De-escalation of resident conflicts.
- Ability to use sound judgement and resolution skills in an often-quick moving environment.
- Contact appropriate emergency assistance (911) as needed.
- Enforce the EGM expectations with residents such as quiet time, lights out, etc.
- Clean, and disinfect regularly.
- Addresses complaints and concerns promptly in a courteous manner and notifies the Shelter Manager of any issues.
- May involve exposure to blood and other bodily fluids.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with at-risk population preferred.
- Ability to work SHIFT WORK.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Basic- computer skills preferred.
- Able to defuse tense situations.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Proven track record working with a diverse population.
- Ability to work in an active environment.
- Frequent standing, walking and sitting.
- Frequent lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds.
- Occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
