Vice Principal of Everett High School
DEFINITION:
Everett High School is seeking a dynamic, talented leader with the knowledge, experience, and skillset that will develop and create strong outcomes for students, families, and staff at the Everett Public Schools. This individual shall be an employee member of the Everett Public Schools appointed by the Superintendent of Schools, under the supervision of the Principal of the High School and whose primary responsibility shall be in the area of management, development, and supervision of students.
Required Experience:
? Master's degree in Education from an accredited institution in Secondary Administration.
? Five years teaching experience.
? SEI Endorsement.
? Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Certification as a Principal/Assistant Principal, Grades 9-12.
Preferred Experience:
? Familiarity with an urban school district.
? Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking in another language in addition to English.
? Experience working with students with disabilities and multilingual learners.
SALARY:
Salary based on the Everett Teachers’ Association
WORKING TIME:
The Vice Principal will be required to work 222 days, excluding holidays.
Candidate Must Possess:
? Strong background in curriculum and instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, specifically English Learners and students with disabilities, with experience in program design, evaluation, and management.
? Ability to lead a large, complex, comprehensive school.
? Ability to develop the full potential of a highly competent staff.
? A proven record in the management of student discipline and student activities.
? Superior skills in articulating the goals and objectives of the school to the community of Everett.
? Knowledge of Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and effective culturally responsive teaching strategies.
? Effective culturally responsive communication skills with staff and families.
? Knowledge of the data cycle and data analysis for action planning and accountability to leaders to disrupt patterns of inequity and well-serve richly diverse student bodies with varied educational needs.
? Extensive knowledge of the ASPEN student management system, including high school scheduling.
? Extensive knowledge of Massachusetts student and staff reporting (EPIMS/SIMS).
? Ability to administer and schedule MCAS and ACCESS testing.
? Experience developing positive, caring relationships with students, family members, and staff to ensure that school community members feel valued, respected, equitably supported, and a sense of belonging in the school community.
? Ability to provide effective, timely, and meaningful supervision and evaluation of staff.
? Knowledge of compliance with state and federal laws and mandates, policies, and collective bargaining agreements.
Essential Duties:
Instructional Leadership
? Be visible and active as an educational leader in the community.
? Support the Principal in curriculum development and the preparation of the student, school and teacher schedules within consideration of physical facilities available, special abilities, talents of students and teachers, but with proper regard for, and
advice from Deans, Heads of Departments, Coordinators, classroom teachers and guidance counselors.
? Evaluate all assigned staff, together with the principal, school, and district leaders, in accordance with the School Committee’s Rules and Regulations, the Everett Teachers Association, and the Everett School Administrators Association contract.
? Establish a culture and climate reflective of student engagement, voice, and growth
? Coordinate, manage, and oversee the Student and Teacher Assistance and Remediation Team (START) process.
? Initiate, encourage, conduct, and evaluate school projects and innovations.
? Provide direction and referral of pupils as needed, on the advice of guidance counselors.
? Assist in providing school assemblies and activities leading to proper academic, civic, social, and physical development of students.
? Assist in orienting pupils, teachers, student teachers and substitute teachers.
? Assist and advise in the administration of grade reporting procedures and records.
? Assist and advise in the administration of attendance reporting procedures and records.
? Assist in the hiring, recruitment, placement, evaluation, and dismissal of teachers.
? Assist in the continuity of articulation with other schools, in the city and outside the city.
? Coordinate all student teachers and practicum participants at Everett High School.
? Provides ongoing training and support to staff that ensure student health, safety, and well-being. Developing age-appropriate and culturally and linguistically sustaining social-emotional competencies in students (self-awareness, self- management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making).
? Support the Principal, Leadership Team, and faculty with developing and maintaining an academic vision of success for all staff and students.
? Coordinate curriculum design and scheduling with district leaders, the teaching staff, and other personnel to supervise curriculum instructional techniques.
? Collaborates with a diverse team to develop and execute effective and culturally responsive operational systems, procedures, and routines that ensure an inclusive, equitable, and safe school community that maximizes student learning.
? Monitor and use school-level and disaggregated data, research, and best practices to eliminate learning inequities across race, gender, ethnicity, language, disability and ability, and other aspects of student identities.
? Assist the Principal in developing the School Improvement Plan to meet district goals for the school and the building-based assessment survey needs.
Management and Operations:
? The Vice Principal shall have general charge of the supervision and discipline of the pupils in the building. At such times, the Vice Principal may call upon teachers for assistance and require them to perform any duties that may be necessary in order to
support the social, academic, and emotional well-being of all students.
? Provide advice and direction to teachers in any emergency.
? Support the completion of action plans, calendars of events, and budgets for school programs and departments.
? Supervise the ordering of materials for instruction, textbooks, and equipment.
Review operational cost factors, including vandalism, utilities, repairs, maintenance, building renovations, and teaching substitute costs.
? Assist in the supervision of the building under the direction of the Principal.
? Experience using Aspen software for student scheduling and staff management including facilitating all SIMS, SCS, and EPIMS data.
? Assist in coordinating all school-sponsored ceremonies, such as the Graduation, Prom, and Awards Night.
? Assist the Principal in coordinating scholarship award selections and providing information for scholarship selection.
? Supervise and implement substitute teacher procedures.
? Supervise new student enrollment.
? Understands and complies with all state and federal laws, mandates, policies, and collective bargaining agreements.
? Prevent and address bullying and other unsafe behaviors with timely responses and restorative practices in order to provide for a safe learning environment.
? Fostering and utilizing partnerships with outside agencies and organizations to address student needs proactively and systematically.
? Implement effective systems for attendance, student entry, dismissal, meals, class transitions, assemblies, and recess.
? Supervise substitute procedures.
? Maintain building inventories of educational materials, furniture, and equipment.
? Coordinate referrals to the Special Education Department, Guidance Department, and Department of English Learners.
? Supervise the plans to determine, develop, and implement the students’ master schedule with related teacher programs and duties.
? Plan fire drills and emergency evacuation plans for the facility and ensure compliance with the district and school’s emergency preparedness procedures.
Family and Community Engagement:
? Attending all parents nights or any functions, including athletic events and all other extracurricular activities as directed by the Principal.
? Communicate effectively with families through school programs, letters, telephone calls, and personal contacts that promote a sense of belonging and inclusion and are responsive to the needs of a multilingual community.
? Meet with families, community groups, and agencies to support the goals of an inclusive and equitable school community.
? Establish and cultivate relationships with community and business leaders to support our students and staff.
? Ensure that all physical spaces are safe, accessible, and welcoming, and honor and celebrate the diversity and achievements of the school community.
Professional Culture:
? Assist as advisor and supervisor of teacher professional development.
? Assisting in the coordination of common planning time and department meetings,
? Counsel building staff as required and assist the Principal with the Everett Public Schools Induction/Mentoring Program.
? Review and approve the Individual Professional Improvement Plans of teachers.
? Attend and participate in various professional and in-service meetings that enhance the educational goals of the schools, as approved and directed by the Superintendent.
? Adhere to the Everett School Committee’s Rules and Regulations and all directives of the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents.
? Assist the Principal in planning faculty meetings.
? Participate in system-wide committees, as required.
? Perform any other duties and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
? While performing the duties of this job, the Vice Principal is regularly required to communicate effectively.
? The Vice t Principal must frequently stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and run.
? The Vice Principal must occasionally be able to lift and/or move children/objects.
? The Vice Principal must be able to work in a noisy, stressful, high-pressure environment and still be able to concentrate and keep children safe.
? Ability to respond to emergencies (e.g., injured student, fights, behavior problems, abusive students, etc).
? The job is performed under conditions with exposure to the risk of injury and/or illness, although in a clean environment.
Salary:
Salary for this position will be in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Everett School Committee and the Everett Teachers Association (Unit B)
