PAYROLL SPECIALIST
DEFINITION
The Payroll Specialist is an essential member of our Everett Public Schools Human Resource Administration team. The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for the accurate and timely processing for the employees of Everett Public Schools.

- Responsible for processing all payroll (weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly) employees, ensuring proper payment, and maintaining accurate payroll records.
- Analyze weekly and biweekly payroll reports for accuracy and make necessary adjustments or corrections.
- Process new employees into payroll management system.
- Maintain and update knowledge of federal, state and local government regulations and reporting requirements that affect payroll deduction and processing.
- Prepares and reconciles payroll transactions, leave time accrual and balance reports
- Computes payroll calculations based on employees tax withholding status and deduction schedule as requested by the employee.
- Compiles payroll data and reports upon request and from time-to-time.
- Performs payroll audits to ensure withholding, pay, and general compliance.
- Work with Everett City Hall and MTRS to properly enroll employees into a retirement plan.
- Manage the transfer of retirement funds to respective retirement accounts.
- Research problems with paychecks that may include underpayments, over-payments, and benefits withholding errors etc.
- Interacts with management to resolve payroll related problems.
- Manage relationship with Payroll Service Provider (Harpers Payroll) to ensure successful implementation of requested changes and enhancements.
- Communicates important information effectively with the Director of HR and employees.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
- Associate degree or higher preferred with a preferred major in Accounting, Management, Human Resources, Finance, or related field.
- 3 years’ of payroll experience required, preferably processing multiple companies simultaneously with an understanding of Accounting Fundamentals and Payroll best practices
- Experience with government, municipalities or small businesses.
- Proficiency using Google Workspace, Intermediate level with Excel
- Meticulous attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Motivated self-starter able to work independently with minimal supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
- Experience with Payroll implementation is a plus.
TERM:
The Payroll Specialist is a 12 month, full time in office position.
