Overview:
The Shop Foreman is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of fleet maintenance operations within this company. The Shop Foreman is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the maintenance shop, ensuring that all vehicles are maintained and repaired to the highest standards. This role involves managing a team of maintenance technicians, coordinating repair schedules, and maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Management:
- Supervise and lead a team of maintenance technicians and diesel mechanics.
- Oversee all day-to-day activities in the shop.
- Schedule work assignments and manage workload distribution to ensure efficient use of resources.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching, training, and development opportunities for team members.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, safety regulations, and best practices.
- Oversee and submit payroll for all shop technicians in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with other members to utilize the reporting capabilities of TMT and Samsara to the fullest potential.
Maintenance & Repairs:
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of the company’s fleet of vehicles, including routine maintenance and emergency repairs.
- Ensure that all work is completed in a timely manner and meets quality standards.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of vehicles.
- Ensuring technicians are affecting clocking in on jobs and addressing all PM items needed.
- Ensure all units are maintained and safe to travel highways.
- Help the company’s units revenue as much as possible by striving to maintain a very high uptime for units through the implementation of Preventive Maintenance and identifying chronic weaknesses and developing PM Schedules and Campaigns to get ahead of breakdowns before they occur.
- Evaluating chronic breakdowns and asses a need for a PM/Campaign to be established. If one is established, ensure PM/Campaigns are performed on every required piece of equipment when it is due.
- Schedule maintenance PM’s and repairs with Assistant Shop Manager and Fleet Manager.
- Utilize TMT for future unit maintenance and to ensure completion of all PM, repairs, Campaigns, and inspections before a unit leaves the terminal.
Vendor and Parts Management:
- Order stock parts and monitor inventory levels for the ordering process in TMT.
- Review pricing on parts and outside tickets-bills
- Submit tickets for vendor order repairs as well as close/approve all shop repairs.
- Track and control inventory usage and costs.
- Maintain positive relationships with vendors to help ensure repairs are completed in a timely manner.
Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage.
- Prepare and present reports on maintenance performance, cost analysis, and other relevant metrics to senior management.
- Run down time and cost per unit reports as required by senior management
Additional Responsibilities:
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and training initiatives to enhance the efficiency, reliability, and safety of fleet operations. Implement best practices and innovative solutions to optimize maintenance processes.
- Asset Management: Assist in maintaining comprehensive asset management systems to track the lifecycle of fleet vehicles, including acquisition, maintenance, depreciation, and disposal. Optimize asset utilization and replacement strategies to minimize downtime and maximize ROI.
- Safety and Risk Management: Prioritize safety in all maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, conducting regular inspections, and promoting a culture of safety awareness among maintenance personnel. Mitigate risks associated with vehicle maintenance and operation.
- Emergency Response: Coordinate emergency response and recovery efforts in the event of accidents, breakdowns, or other fleet-related incidents. This includes a rotation of on-call after hours for breakdowns.**
