Evergreen Preschool is a highly respected and innovative 5 STARS preschool program serving children ages 3-5 in Vergennes, Vermont. Our vision is to foster a new generation of compassionate, creative, and active learners whose education was planted and nurtured at Evergreen Preschool. It is our belief that a child’s self-directed play is their primary and most important mode of learning, and it ensures a strong foundation for personal and intellectual growth. Nurturing a child’s physical, social-emotional, and intellectual development is essential for their personal, life-long success. We believe that providing an environment, whether it be indoors or out in the natural world, which is warm, welcoming, dynamic, challenging, and safe encourages the greatest possible climate for learning. Evergreen Preschool provides an emergent curriculum, developed in response to children’s questions and interests, ensures a connection to and ownership of their knowledge. The curriculum and learning objectives should be based upon solid, educational philosophy and evidence-based, early childhood practices. Our co-teaching method enhances the opportunities for a child to approach ideas from multiple perspectives.

Schedule:

• Monday, Wednesday and Friday 7:30 - 2:15 and Tuesday and Thursday 7:30 - 4.
• Attendance at playground cleanup at the end of August, summer work day in August, winter open house on Saturday in January, curriculum night, and parent teacher conferences twice a year with evening hours.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

• Develop and implement engaging, play-based lesson plans that promote exploration and critical thinking.
• Fostering strong, trusting relationships with students, families, and colleagues to create a positive and supportive learning environment.
• Utilize strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a team of educators, parents, and students.
• Supporting the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of children in a flexible yet structured environment requires creating a balanced approach that fosters growth in all areas.
• Have patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children and helping them achieve their goals.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and inspiring classroom space.
• Implement effective classroom management strategies that support positive behavior and social-emotional growth.
• Understanding of diverse learning needs and the ability to adapt instructional approaches to accommodate various learning styles and abilities.
• Have the ability to maintain a positive and inclusive classroom culture that encourages engagement, creativity, and critical thinking
• Model flexibility and adaptability to handle varying classroom situations and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.

Qualifications:

• A highly competent and professional educator with a genuine love for early childhood education.
• Must meet the minimum qualifications and training for an educator, as described in the Vermont State Early Childhood Program Licensing Regulations. In addition, the Educator should have: A Certificate/Credential in early childhood education, or associate degree in early childhood education (or equivalent experience and training in early childhood education), or a Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in early childhood education or a related field of study, preferably with additional credits in ECE
• Knowledge of effective teaching strategies, classroom management techniques, and child development principles and play-based learning philosophies.
• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills—a team player with a growth mindset.
• Experience with Teaching Strategies Gold observation assessment tool.
• A satisfactory state-required background and fingerprint check.
• First Aid and CPR certification.
• The role demands the ability to take frequent walks, stand, sit, or kneel for periods of time. It also requires manual dexterity for handling objects, tools, or controls, and the capability to lift up to 50 lbs. The work is performed both indoors and outdoors year-round, with regular communication required.
