Transportation Aide

The Transportation Aide provides scheduled and unscheduled (as directed by supervisor) transportation services to the residents between the Center and various destinations throughout the community.

I. POSITION REQUIREMENTS :

A. Minimal Education :

1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one to three months related experience and / or training or equivalent combination and experience preferred.

B. Minimal Experience :

1. Certification as a nursing assistant required.

2. Current state driver's license required.

C. Other Qualifications :

1. Certification as a nursing assistant preferred.

2. CPR Certification and First Aid training is required.

3. Experience working in a skilled nursing or assisted living setting strongly preferred. 4. Minimum age of 25 years of older is required for this position due to auto insurance restrictions.

5. Ability to meet underwriting guidelines established by auto insurance carrier.

6. Ability to comply with requirements of the Driver Evaluation Policy in the HR Policy and Procedure Manual (II-H-4)

II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Schedules and coordinates appointments with Administrative, Nursing and other departments as needed.

2. Loads, unloads, and transports residents to and from doctor appointments, hospitals and destinations in the community.

3. Maintains driver’s license, auto liability insurance and safe driving record.

4. Notifies Supervisor of changes, problems, difficulty, errors or occurrences with a resident 5. Assists residents with their needs while at appointments.

6. Picks up and delivers supplies and other materials as needed.

7. May assist with special events including assisting activity staff with off-site activities. 8. May assist maintenance staff with maintenance of company vehicles.

9. Performs routine scheduled shuttle service for residents.

10. Performs other duties as assigned.

III. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • 1. Protects and promotes resident rights.

2. Reports for work on time and prepared to assume duties.

3. Adheres to facility dress and professional appearance code.

4. Records and communicates information timely, thoroughly, accurately and legibly.

5. Follows policy for reporting in sick and scheduling time off with supervisory approval.

6. Leaves for meal break on time and returns on time.

7. Varies work schedule (works overtime, leaves early when requested, works shifts other than regularly scheduled as required) to meet company needs.

8. Works overtime only with appropriate approval when requested.

9. Attends and participates in meetings, training and in-service classes as needed or required.

10.Responds to and manages complaints in a professional and timely manner.

11. Maintains strict confidentiality of resident, facility, proprietary, and business information.

12.Responds to internal and external customers in a professional and friendly manner. 13. Offers assistance or directs individual to appropriate resources with proper follow through

14.Works cooperatively with Residents, Resident Services, Nursing Staff, Physicians, Families, Consultant Personnel, Community Agencies and Ancillary Personnel. 15.Complies on a timely basis with all requirements related to risk management, safety, infection control, employee health TB screening, security and fire.

16. Provides for a safe environment for residents, physicians and employees.

17. Provides excellent customer service to all residents, their families, physicians and employees.

18.Supports and participates in the continuous quality process.

19.Assumes responsibility for all mandatory in-services, certification and / or licensure, competencies, etc.

20. Performs all duties as assigned

IV. Travel : No overnight travel. Maybe asked to assist in other facilities.

Supervision : Works with close supervision, consults with supervisor on any unusual situation. No supervision of other employees required.

VI. WORKING CONDITIONS : Works with others; works around others; has verbal contact with others; has face-to-face contact; shift work; extended day; works inside and outside; works around noise, mechanical and electrical equipment and moving objects; exposed to fumes / odors, dirt / dust, gas; the blood borne pathogen Category for this position is III.

VII. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT : This position requires some exposure to infectious wastes such as blood and body fluids that mandate the wearing of gloves, masks / respirators, gowns or goggles. Defensive driving techniques should be employed for personal protection and protection of residents.

VIII. CAREER PATH : Various positions with additional education / training.
