Summary
The Government Relations Coordinator provides support and analysis of current public policy and administrative issues. In addition they perform professional administrative support including scheduling and coordinating appointments and meetings; preparing and modifying documents, reports and other correspondence; identifies and tracks key budget, policy, and legislative proposals; and facilitates team support and analysis on current public policy and administrative issues.
Job Title: Government Relations Coordinator
Position Summary:
The Government Relations Coordinator supports EveryChild California's advocacy and public policy efforts by tracking legislation, coordinating outreach to government officials, and fostering relationships with key stakeholders. This role is instrumental in advancing EveryChild California's policy agenda, ensuring compliance with advocacy guidelines, and keeping internal teams informed of political developments that impact our mission.
Key Responsibilities:
Legislative and Policy Monitoring
- Track and analyze local, state, and federal legislation and policy developments relevant to the organization's mission.
- Prepare policy briefs, summaries, and legislative updates for internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist in the development of policy positions, talking points, and advocacy materials.
Government Relations and Advocacy Support
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with elected officials, legislative staff, government agencies, and coalition partners.
- Coordinate and support the organization’s participation in legislative hearings, briefings, and advocacy events, including providing public comment.
- Schedule and prepare materials for legislative visits, meetings, advocacy days and events.
Communication and Engagement
- Draft correspondence and communications with policymakers, regulatory bodies, and advocacy networks, including support and opposition letter.
- Assist in planning and promoting advocacy campaigns, including grassroots and grasstops engagement.
- Support internal education efforts to keep staff and board members informed on policy priorities and advocacy opportunities.
Administrative and Reporting
- Maintain a database of contacts and activity related to government relations and advocacy.
- Maintain the legislative tracking database.
- Assist in grant reporting and funder updates related to policy and advocacy work.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, communications, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of experience in government relations, public affairs, policy advocacy, or a related role (internships included).
- Strong understanding of legislative processes at the local, state, and/or federal level.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Ability to work independently, handle confidential information, and manage multiple deadlines.
- Commitment to the organization’s mission and values.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with or in a non-profit organization, legislative office, or advocacy organization.
- Familiarity with CRMs or advocacy tools (e.g., CapitolTrak, NOVI, Phone2Action, Quorum).
Work Environment and Schedule:
- Hybrid work environment, 3 days in the office, 2 days remote.
- It may require occasional travel to the state capitol or local government offices.
- Some evening or weekend work during peak legislative periods or events.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
