They also educate pet owners on proper animal care and health maintenance.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Diagnosis and Treatment:
- Examine animals to diagnose their health issues.
- Perform medical procedures, including surgeries, vaccinations, and dental care.
- Prescribe medications and treatment plans.
- Monitor and manage the recovery of animals post-treatment or surgery.
Preventive Care:
- Conduct routine health checks and vaccinations to prevent illness.
- Provide advice on diet, exercise, and general care for pets and other animals.
- Educate pet owners about preventive measures and health maintenance.
Emergency Care:
- Respond to emergency situations involving injured or critically ill animals.
- Provide immediate medical intervention and stabilize patients.
Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for each animal.
- Document treatment plans, progress notes, and client communications.
Client Communication:
- Discuss diagnostic findings, treatment options, and prognosis with pet owners.
- Answer questions and address concerns regarding animal health and care.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with veterinary technicians, nurses, and other support staff.
- Consult with specialists and refer cases when necessary.
Administrative Duties:
- Manage clinic operations, including scheduling appointments and managing inventory.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Continued Education:
- Stay current with advancements in veterinary medicine through continuous education and training.
