Position Summary :
The Medical Assistant (MA) plays a vital role in supporting the health and well-being of adolescents in a residential treatment setting. Working closely with the medical, clinical, and administrative teams, the MA provides direct medical support, ensures the safe administration of medications, and facilitates effective healthcare coordination for clients.
Essential Functions :
Administer basic first aid in accordance with training and organizational protocols.
Interview clients and accurately document medical histories.
Coordinate with the medical team to provide basic medical support within scope of practice; assist with and transport clients to medical appointments as needed.
Administer prescribed medications, including morning and afternoon medication passes (morning pass begins promptly at 8 : 00 AM daily).
Conduct Urine Drug Screens (UDS), weekly weight checks, pregnancy tests, and COVID-19 tests as directed by the clinical team.
Administer Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale (COWS) and Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment (CIWA) tools for clients with substance use issues; report findings to physicians promptly.
Welcome new clients and families, review medication histories, and manage medication check-in procedures.
Facilitate medication refills and coordinate with prescribing physicians for new or updated orders.
Pick up medications from the pharmacy and ensure proper handling.
Dispose of unused or discontinued medications in compliance with licensing and accreditation standards.
Maintain inventory of medical supplies and coordinate restocking with the purchasing department.
Supervise clients during medical appointments and monitor clients requiring bedrest.
Transport clients to external medical facilities, including doctor’s offices, urgent care centers, or emergency rooms as necessary.
Complete all medical documentation accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner.
Assist with COVID-19 protocols, including supervising COVID-positive clients, performing tests on clients and staff, coordinating with laboratories, and managing PPE supplies.
Uphold infection control standards, medication administration protocols, and safety procedures to maintain a clean, secure medical environment.
Ensure continuity of care by documenting and communicating relevant medical information to the medical team, including updates for the weekend nurse.
Perform other medical-related duties as assigned.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate compassionately and effectively with adolescents and their families.
Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients and colleagues.
Experience working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, manage complex situations, and respond professionally in high-stress environments.
Requirements :
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program in California.
Active California Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification.
Must be 21 years of age or older.
Current CPR / BLS certification.
Strong communication skills and basic proficiency with computer systems.
Willingness to provide care for COVID-positive clients as needed.
Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Ability to pass a LiveScan background check and clear federal and state criminal background checks, including child abuse index clearance.
