POSITION SUMMARY
The Ewing Marion Kauffman School is a free, public charter school serving 1000 students in 5th through 12th grades. Focused on student achievement and strong character, the Kauffman School’s mission is to support students in maximizing their opportunities for post-secondary success. The school serves a student population of which 87% qualify for free and reduced lunch and 90% identify as students of color. Students are accepted by a lottery that prioritizes the six highest-need zip codes within the district. More than 70% of our students identify as first in their families to attend college. From serving as certified doulas to attending graduate school to starting their own local small businesses, our alumni are shaping their post-secondary paths and we are incredibly proud of their determination and drive.

Reporting to members of the Kauffman School’s operations team, the summer intern will work with a team of other interns who are responsible for undertaking the critical work of preparing the Kauffman school building, materials and systems for the 2025-2026 school year. Summer interns reset classrooms, prepare student supplies, reorganize storage spaces, and support with other duties as assigned that support the operations team’s summer project list. Interns should be flexible, demonstrate strong focus, feel excited to learn new things, and show interest in how schools work “behind the scenes.”
The Kauffman School’s summer internship program runs from Monday, June 2 through Friday, June 27, pauses for the first two weeks of July, and continues from Monday, July 14 through Friday, August 15. Daily hours are 9 AM - 2:30 PM. Adjustments can be made to start/end dates or daily hours if known at time of hire; interns who may need a slightly different schedule are still strongly encouraged to apply.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Classroom & Supply Preparation:
- Count and sort school supplies (e.g. novels for English classes) to ensure proper inventory and organization for the upcoming school year
- Prepare reading logs, pencil bags, index card rings and other student supplies that require preparation and assembly
- Distribute student supplies and teacher supplies to the appropriate locations for the upcoming school year
- Operate with cost savings in mind by ensuring minimal supply loss during the ordering, unpacking and organizing stages and taking stock of existing supply inventory before placing new orders
- Respond to teacher and staff supply needs through the summer and in advance of Day 1 of school
Event Support
- Staff summer events like New Student Orientation, Back to School Night or new teacher interview sample teaches
- Support with setup for events, including setting up sign-in tables, preparing orientation folders, preparing supplies, etc.
School Building Readiness
- Clean out classrooms, teacher workrooms and supply closets
- Organize student lost and found and prepare items for washing and/or donation
- Reset uniform closet spaces across the school
- Refresh wall hangings, bulletin boards, photos and other displays

QUALIFICATIONS
- Age 16 or older
- Able to commit to 20 hours a week for 8-10 weeks during Summer 2025
- 2.0 GPA and 85% daily attendance rate at school during most recent school year
- Excellent communicator with a high level of personal integrity and professionalism when dealing with others
- Ability to multi-task with excellent time management skills
- Ability to effectively prioritize work and meet deadlines; organized; ability to manage multiple assignments and follow assignments through to completion; ability to respond quickly to requests for information and assistance
- Work well in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
- Proficiency with office technology and demonstrated facility for learning new programs and applications quickly (Microsoft and Google platforms)
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Compensation starts at $13.75 an hour and is commensurate with experience. This is a part-time, non-benefits-eligible internship.
