Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Director of Commissions to lead and oversee the entire commissions strategy and operations. This individual will be responsible for directing overall commissions operations, ensuring the accurate and efficient processing of commission statements, and optimizing all aspects of commission workflows. They will take a hands-on approach in structuring the department, actively managing personnel, and ensuring best practices are established and followed to improve efficiency and compliance while maintaining detailed oversight of all commission-related operations.
As the key decision-maker for commissions strategy, this role requires a highly analytical and detail-oriented approach to develop policies, implement scalable solutions, and drive operational improvements that enhance financial performance. The ideal candidate must possess an exceptional ability to scrutinize complex commission structures, identify discrepancies, and ensure precision in all aspects of commission management. The Director of Commissions will work closely with internal stakeholders—including Technology, Data Analytics, Finance, and Sales—to align commission strategies with broader business objectives. This individual will collaborate with our development team to identify and remediate issues in our Back Office commissions software and implement new features to enhance the agent experience. Additionally, this role will serve as the primary liaison with carriers to manage compensation structures, resolve discrepancies, and strengthen commission tracking processes.
Job Duties
Oversee the full lifecycle of commission processing, ensuring timely and accurate integration into our Back Office software.
- Lead the commission processing team responsible for managing incoming carrier statements.
- Design and implement compensation grids for new products as well as new changes to pay structure of our agents.
- Direct the commissions support team in handling agent inquiries related to payouts, discrepancies, and system issues.
- Establish and implement auditing procedures to ensure payout accuracy before submission to payroll.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve commission discrepancies through in-depth data analysis and collaboration with internal teams.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with the Director of Data Analytics to facilitate smooth data ingestion from carrier commission statements and application submissions.
- Partner with the Finance Team to reconcile commissions receivable, ensuring accurate accounting and financial forecasting.
- Collaborate with the Technology Team to enhance and maintain our Back Office software, addressing system bugs and driving feature improvements.
- Partner with the Technology Team in the development of a Policy Inventory System to track all sold policies and identify any missing commission payments.
- Serve as the primary liaison with carriers, fostering strong relationships, negotiating compensation grids, and resolving commission-related issues.
- Provide critical reporting and insights to C-suite executives, board members, and sales leadership to support data-driven business decisions.
Strategic Leadership & Process Optimization
- Lead, mentor, and manage the commissions team, fostering a culture of accountability and operational excellence.
- Implement industry best practices to optimize the commission processing workflow and reduce errors.
- Adapt to industry changes, ensuring company processes remain compliant and efficient in response to evolving carrier structures and compensation models.
- Develop and maintain clear documentation and training programs for the commissions processing and support teams.
Minimum Qualifications
Proven experience in commissions processing or finance- Experience in the insurance and healthcare industry preferred
- Bachelor's Degree required, Master's preferred
- Proven experience leading teams
The pay range for this role is:
90,000 - 100,000 USD per year(Westerville, OH)
