Position Overview:
Exact Stormwater Management is seeking a skilled and experienced Aquatics Applicator to lead and oversee the management of aquatic ecosystems, focusing on pond and wetland health, invasive species control, and aquatic vegetation management.
The successful candidate will possess expert knowledge in aquatic biology, with a strong background in water quality assessments, aquatic weed control, and ecosystem preservation. This role will involve both fieldwork and administrative duties, requiring attention to detail, regulatory compliance, and leadership in implementing cost-effective and sustainable solutions for aquatic ecosystem management.
Key Responsibilities:
Lake & Wetland Management:
Assess and manage the health of lakes, wetlands, and other aquatic environments to ensure a balance between biodiversity preservation and aquatic ecosystem functionality.
Identify and assess invasive aquatic vegetation and algae species, implementing effective and eco-friendly control measures.
Develop and implement management plans for invasive species eradication, focusing on preserving native flora and fauna.
Aquatic Weed & Algae Control:
Design and execute strategies to manage and control invasive aquatic vegetation and algae, utilizing both chemical and non-chemical methods that align with EPA standards and local environmental guidelines.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the most cost-effective and sustainable techniques for aquatic weed control.
Water Quality & Lake Assessments:
Conduct regular lake and wetland assessments, including testing for pH, oxygen levels, salinity, nitrates, and other key water quality parameters.
Record and analyze data to identify trends and areas of concern, developing strategies to address issues proactively.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety:
Ensure all chemical applications (e.g., algicides, herbicides) are carried out according to EPA label requirements, with strict adherence to safety protocols and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Maintain detailed records of all treatments, assessments, and water quality data, ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
Stay updated on relevant environmental laws, regulations, and best practices related to aquatic management.
Team Leadership & Collaboration:
Collaborate with other environmental and stormwater management teams to ensure integrated and effective project execution.
Communicate with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies regarding the status of aquatic projects, reports, and management plans.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Aquatic Biology, Environmental Science, or related field.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in aquatic biology, lake/wetland management, or related environmental field.
Experience in aquatic vegetation management, algae control, and water quality monitoring.
Proven experience with field assessments, including sediment sampling, pH testing, and salinity analysis.
Skills & Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of aquatic ecosystems, native and invasive plant species, and aquatic pest management techniques.
Proficient in identifying aquatic plant species and algae, and utilizing appropriate methods for their control.
Strong understanding of water quality parameters (e.g., pH, dissolved oxygen, nitrates) and the ability to interpret field data.
Ability to work independently, solve complex problems, and make informed decisions in the field.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with a commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
Certifications & Licenses:
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Virginia Pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain) for aquatic herbicides and algicides, as required by state and federal regulations.
CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform fieldwork in various environmental conditions, including exposure to water bodies, outdoor environments, and inclement weather.
Capable of lifting and moving equipment (up to 50 lbs) and performing physical tasks related to field operations.
