Job Summary

The Communications Specialist provides marketing and communications direction and support for the College of Business. Develops, produces, and executes content and communications for press releases, news stories, websites, newsletters, and social media management to tell the vibrant stories of the UTA College of Business. Supervises student employees and assists with coordination of special events.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Strategic Content Creation and Communications Planning
    • Provide leadership, guidance, and successful creation of original content storytelling, supporting the College of Business’ communication and marketing goals and strategies with relevant editorial content for a wide range of communications.
    • Plan, write and execute the master communications schedule for the college to ensure timely delivery of stories, press releases, website content, and social media content and management.
    • Communications include, but not limited to:
      • email marketing, social media, website content, press releases, news stories, video/podcast scripts, and recruitment materials.
    • Exercises excellent judgment in the selection of editorial content.
  • Performance Analytics and Reporting for Digital Communication
    • Create and maintain original content for the College website, meeting with departments to ensure content is current and effective checking for accuracy and audience relevance.
    • Work closely with Director to update and maintain website content.
    • Track the success of digital communication efforts through analysis of analytics and proactively suggest improvements using data-driven decisions.
    • Ensure adherence to University Editorial Guidelines.
    • Ensure accuracy and fact-check all content.
    • Maintain a comprehensive monthly marketing report to present to the Director or College Leadership.
    • Make recommendations to identify trends and optimize marketing communications outreach strategy
  • Collaborative Leadership and Media Relations Management
    • Proactively identify and suggest story ideas and partner with other departments to promote collaboration.
    • Point of contact in College of Business for external media relations and university communication.
    • Supervise a team of student employees who assist with creative content for use on social and web-based platforms.
    • Assist in the coordination and execution of special events.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in higher education, marketing, communications, multimedia, website management, or event planning or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience in similar role.
  • Experience in news and feature writing skills and demonstrated expert-level competence in AP journalism-style writing and copy editing.
  • Experience effectively creating and analyzing content for a website, blog, and a variety of social media platforms.
  • Experience in media query response or journalism/reporting experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
  • Supervision experience, specifically student employees.
  • Five (5) years experience in higher education marketing, student affairs/success, communications, multimedia or creative content creation, website management, and/or special event planning.

  • Advanced knowledge of social media and email marketing trends and analytics with the ability to proactively suggest improvements on strategies based on data.
  • Solid communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
