As a senior estimator, your role involves a combination of technical knowledge, attention to detail, and strong communication skills to ensure that construction or manufacturing projects are completed within budget and on time. Your responsibilities can be broken down into several key stages:
1. Project Selection and Initial Evaluation:
- Assess Project Scope: Understand the full scope of the project by reviewing all provided documentation, such as blueprints, specifications, and any other relevant project details.
- Initial Feasibility: Assess the project for feasibility based on available resources and potential risks to ensure that an accurate estimate can be prepared.
2. Estimate Organization:
- Break Down the Estimate: Organize the estimate by breaking it down into labor, materials, and time requirements for each stage of the project.
- Collaboration with Other Teams: Work with project managers and engineers to get their input and ensure all aspects of the project are considered in the estimate.
3. Take-Offs:
- Quantities and Measurements: Use the project plans to conduct accurate take-offs to determine the quantities of materials, labor, and other resources required.
- Review Plans: Ensure that every detail in the plans is accounted for, including any special conditions or deviations that could impact the cost.
4. Pricing:
- Cost Database Utilization: Use historical data, cost databases, or vendor quotes to establish pricing for labor, materials, and any additional services required.
