DescriptionJob SummaryPerforms diagnostic Imaging examinations, (X-ray, Ultrasound, MRI, OR Nuclear Medicine), under the direct supervision of a registered Imaging technologist.Essential Job FunctionsCollects Pertinent data about the patient and procedureReconfirms patient's identification and verifies the physician's order.Reviews the patient's chart and / or the physician's order to determine the optimal imaging procedure for suspected pathologyVerifies the patient's pregnancy status when appropriate.Provides information to the patient about the procedureVerifies the patient has consented to the procedure and answers any questions.Provides accurate explanations and instructions at an appropriate time and a at a level the patient can understandInstructs patient regarding preparation prior to imaging procedures including allergic reactions.Analyzes the information obtained during assessment phase and determines optimal imaging parameters per diagnosisDetermines whether patient has been appropriately prepared for procedure.Assesses factors that may contraindicate procedure such as medications or insufficient patient preparation.Selects appropriate shielding and immobilization devices.Administers contrast agents according to established guidelines (if applicable)Obtains written consent prior to IV contrast administration.Evaluates lab values prior to administering contrast agents.Determines appropriate type and dose of contrast agent to be administered.Monitors patient during exam for adverse reaction to contrast media.Completes all necessary formsObtains optimum images during exam / procedureSets / adjusts radiographic equipment.Positions patients to obtain diagnostic images per established protocols.Utilizes CR equipment to maximize image quality.Sends images to PACS for interpretation by radiologist.Archives images to CD's as needed.Documents information about patient care, exam, and patient history in appropriate record.Verifies correct order is entered into RIS / HISDocuments appropriate patient history into PACS system.Documents any exceptions from the established guidelines.Scans appropriate documents into PACS systemCompletes all necessary formsFacilitates correspondence with all departments to assure procedures are done in a timely manner.Works with Centralized Scheduling, nursing units, and ER to accommodate STAT or ASAP orders.Coordinates patient care with other departments within Imaging / radiologyMaintains equipment and work station in optimum conditionPerforms daily QC on radiographic equipment.Assure adequate patient care and office supplies are maintained.Implements downtime procedures when necessary.Coordinates rescheduling of patients during equipment downtime.Initiates established downtime procedures during HIS / RIS and PACS downtime.Attends monthly department meetings or reviews meeting minutes.Other duties as assigned.Required QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED, or Higher Level of Education.Must be enrolled in and have completed one year of an accredited Diagnostic Imaging, (Radiology, Ultrasound, MRI, Nuclear Medicine) program.
