Position Overview:
The Field Service Process Engineer – Team Lead is responsible for supporting the full lifecycle of machinery and plant systems, from installation and commissioning to optimization and ongoing service. This role acts as a technical expert in the application, operation, and troubleshooting of complex industrial equipment and processes, with a primary focus on customer locations throughout North America.
This individual will lead and coordinate on-site activities, working closely with project management, engineering, and technology teams to ensure equipment and systems are installed, commissioned, and operated effectively. A core part of the role involves customer training, technical documentation, and providing feedback to improve equipment design and performance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide on-site and remote support for customer inquiries, including instruction and troubleshooting.
- Lead the installation and commissioning of machinery and systems, including contractor oversight and customer training.
- Guide customer personnel through machine operation, maintenance procedures, and emergency spare parts planning.
- Review and be responsible for panel drawings and electrical schematics.
- Conduct final inspections of new equipment prior to shipment.
- Utilize equipment sizing tools, calculators (e.g., for pipes, dosing, pumps, valves), and performance analysis software.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including technology handbooks, scopes of work, assembly/start-up instructions, and performance reports.
- Audit and document performance of installed equipment for internal and R&D purposes.
- Contribute to the development of product design guidelines in collaboration with product and process engineering teams.
- Review customer layouts and P&IDs to ensure compliance with engineering standards.
- Execute audits of effluent treatment and water treatment systems, including analyzing test data and generating reports.
- Support and lead efforts related to the erection, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), start-up, and commissioning of industrial equipment.
- Participate in continuous improvement and product development initiatives.
- Deliver internal and external training sessions for customers and team members.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field (e.g., Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Environmental, Industrial Engineering) or equivalent experience.
- 7 years of experience in operations, optimization, or commissioning within the pulp & paper industry, water/effluent treatment plants, or related sectors.
- Strong understanding of industrial processes, control systems, piping design, and mass flow balance calculations.
- Hands-on experience with machinery and troubleshooting in industrial environments.
- Proficiency in interpreting and developing P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and mass balances.
- Experience with tools such as Excel, CADSIM, and flow calculation software.
- Ability to conduct friction loss and pump sizing calculations.
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
- PE license is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office / O365.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
- Willingness to travel up to 60%.
- Occasional evening work may be required based on business needs or team coordination activities.
