Summary

Job Description:

Under the direction of the Assigned Management, the Corporate Tax Analyst supports the enterprise-wide corporate tax function in all aspects of federal and state tax compliance, planning, research, tax accounting and forecasting, audits and strategic projects. The Corporate Tax Analyst provides tax analytical support and research while keeping up to date on new regulations and industry trends in support of the company’s corporate tax strategy and works collaboratively with all levels of finance and company leadership.

Essential Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Assists with the preparation of federal and state and local income tax returns, including creation of supporting work papers, and various other tax compliance filing requirements.
  • Prepares monthly, annual, and quarterly sales tax submissions.
  • Assists in the analysis and preparation of federal/state estimated tax payments and extension payments for all entities to meet tax obligations and objectives.
  • Assists in the analysis of information and accounting transactions, performs research, and makes recommendations regarding proper application of relevant tax and accounting standards.
  • Using data management and tax and accounting skills, initiates and assists in the improvement and documentation of tax processes.
  • Ensures accuracy and timeliness of tax filings.
  • Assists in timely response to notices received from federal, state and local taxing authorities.
  • Assists in developing and supporting responses to Federal IRS and State audit requests and notices.
  • Assists in preparation, review and documentation of monthly, quarterly and annual income tax provision calculations in accordance with ASC 740 and Statutory Accounting Principles, including account reconciliations, tax basis balance sheet support and the execution of internal controls.
  • Assists the Corp Tax Analyst II, as needed.
  • Participates in assigned special projects, tax planning and assist with other tax compliance as needed.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by remaining current on existing and new tax regulations.

Level II Includes The Above In Addition To

  • Assists in the analysis of information and accounting transactions, performs research, and makes recommendations regarding proper application of relevant tax and accounting standards.
  • Prepares federal, state and local tax filings not completed by external consultants.
  • Reviews monthly, annual, and quarterly sales tax submissions.
  • Coordinates documentation of the enterprise’s uncertain tax positions.
  • Assists with review of returns prepared by external tax consultants and internal staff for compliance with applicable tax law.
  • Performs maintenance and documentation of department controls in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley regulations.
  • Reviews and analyzes annual premium tax filings as well as quarterly and monthly premium tax estimated payments made to state insurance departments.
  • Collaborates with Finance on financial budgets, tax forecasts and deferred tax analysis.
  • Assists with coordination of state or federal income tax audits, including compilation of any information/documentation as requested by the auditing agency.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with internal investment accounting team to maintain tax basis records for investments.
  • Maintains tax basis in partnership and alternative investments. Works with internal investment team and external investment managers to ensure items of income and loss are appropriately reflected on Form K-1.
  • Works with enterprise asst. treasurer to assess and account for federal and state and local tax implications of new investments and new investment strategies.
  • Assists with timely resolution of other tax controversy matters and managing small-scale inquiries and audits, as appropriate.
  • Maintains enterprise tax calendar.
  • Handles projects that are more complex, larger in scope and importance to the organization.
  • Provides other tax support; this may include the analyses of pending legislation, preparation of required transfer pricing documentation and reporting, and implementation of legislative changes.
  • Coordinates special tax projects as necessary, including amended tax returns, year-end planning, research, preparation of technical memoranda and communication of findings with other members of the enterprise.
  • Analyzes information and accounting transactions, performs research, and makes recommendations regarding proper application of relevant tax and accounting standards.
  • Assists enterprise leaders in tax planning and evaluation of tax impacts of business initiatives.
  • Use data management skills and accounting knowledge to initiate and assist in the improvement of tax processes throughout the tax department, including the implementation or application of technology to improve overall efficiency and accuracy.
  • Builds cross functional relationships to assist the businesses in the development of opportunities and assessment of risk.
  • Coaches and provides instruction to all levels professional staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Master of Taxation required with a minimum of one year of public accounting or corporate tax experience with basic experience in preparation of tax returns and tax provisions, as well as performance and documentation of tax research. CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
  • Must be well organized and self-motivated with ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and advanced spreadsheet skills.

Level II- Requires Similar Qualifications As Level I, Plus

  • Minimum of three years of public accounting or corporate tax experience with basic experience in preparation of tax returns and tax provisions, as well as performance and documentation of tax research. CPA required.
  • Strong technical tax/accounting research skills; knowledge of tax and accounting research databases a plus.
  • Obtains a working knowledge of enterprise investment software as it pertains to tax reporting.

Compensation Range(s)

Level I: Grade E2: Minimum $60,410 - Maximum $96,081

Level II: Grade E3: Minimum $60,410 - Maximum $106,929

The salary range indicated in this posting represents the minimum and maximum of the salary range for this position. Actual salary will vary depending on factors including, but not limited to, budget available, prior experience, knowledge, skill and education as they relate to the position’s minimum qualifications, in addition to internal equity. The posted salary range reflects just one component of our total rewards package. Other components of the total rewards package may include participation in group health and/or dental insurance, retirement plan, wellness program, paid time away from work, and paid holidays.
