Job Description
The Infection Preventionist (IP) plays a critical role in maintaining the health and safety of our community through infection control, education, and surveillance. Responsibilities include:
Core Duties
- Data Collection & Analysis: Collect, analyze, and interpret epidemiologic data to identify infection trends.
- Outbreak Surveillance: Investigate and monitor suspected outbreaks and implement control measures.
- Prevention Measures: Develop, implement, and evaluate infection prevention protocols.
- Staff Education: Provide ongoing education on infection risks and prevention strategies.
- Compliance Monitoring: Conduct daily rounds to ensure PPE compliance and monitor infection control activities.
- Education/In-Services:
- Monitor and ensure compliance with annual and mandatory education for CNAs and nurses.
- Conduct ad hoc in-services as directed by the Director of Nursing (DON).
- Maintain organized records of staff education by department.
- Onboarding/New Hire Orientation:
- Collaborate with HR to provide nursing-specific orientation.
- Health File Management:
- Oversee pre-hire health screenings, vaccine compliance, and N95 fit testing.
- Maintain compliance binders for evaluations, competencies, and infection control.
- Track infections using weekly and monthly reports, ensuring detailed documentation.
- Manage binders for vaccination, fit testing, and infection control in-services.
- Conduct contact tracing and testing during outbreaks, ensuring thorough documentation.
- Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in a hospital, nursing care facility, or related healthcare setting preferred.
- At least 6 months of experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.
- Licensure:
- Valid LPN or RN license in the state of New Jersey.
- Skills:
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in infection control practices and data analysis.
