Our client, a national disaster restoration and construction company, is looking for a Project Cost Accountant.
The Project Cost Accountant is responsible for monitoring and assisting in maintaining the financial health of the projects assigned. Maintains accurate and complete records regarding all the financial aspects of the projects, reviewing costs incurred and supporting detailed information.
The Project Cost Accountant will oversee day-to-day operations on all activities related to projects, including but not limited to invoicing and true-up of budgeted cost, identifying variances, and addressing gross margin gaps with the operations team.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor project progress from inception through completion
- Anticipate, identify, and work with the project team to resolve project issues
- Assist in the development of project budgets, ensuring alignment with overall financial goals
- Analyze cost variances and discrepancies, providing insights and recommendations to project managers
- Communication of concerns or issues to project management and accounting management
- Process and review subcontractor work orders and pay applications for compliance
- Monitor and track project costs, including direct and indirect expenses, labor, and materials
- Process clients' pay applications and invoices
- Perform project close-out financial and administrative functions
- Prepare ad-hoc detailed project analyses for operations and finance management
- Provide comprehensive financial analysis and commentary on project cost as requested by management
- Proactively communicate to all levels of the company
- Perform cost reconciliations of projects versus adjuster’s reports
- Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation, explanations, and reconciliations related to project costs
- Assists closely in the production of Work in Progress Schedules
- Assist team members to increase quality control
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, cost accounting, or similar disciplines, preferably within the construction industry or comparable industry
- Experience working with generally accepted accounting principles and accounting software
- Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with accountants, clients, and upper management
- Self-starter and proactive
- Attention to detail
- Good planning and organizational skills to balance and prioritize work
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and adaptable to rapid changes
- Intermediate to advanced skill level using Excel and proficient in all other Microsoft products
