Senior Accountant
Position Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing general accounting functions, ensuring the accurate oversight of project budgets, cashflows, month-end close processes, and financial reporting. This role focuses on maintaining projects by providing regular budget-to-actual reports, assisting with cashflow analysis, and ensuring timely and accurate financial close procedures. Additionally, the Senior Accountant will manage accounts receivable and other balance sheet accounts in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Essential Responsibilities
Project Accounting
- Collaborate with Project Managers to track, monitor, and maintain project budgets, ensuring alignment with financial estimates.
- Prepare and analyze budget-to-actual reports, identifying and addressing variances.
- Assist in managing project cashflows, ensuring timely invoicing and accurate cash forecasting.
Month-End Close
Perform reconciliations for bank accounts, accounts payable, accounts receivable, loans, and other balance sheet accounts (prepaids, fixed assets, accrued expenses, etc.).Complete and update the month-end close checklist, ensuring accuracy and completeness.Review the general ledger for proper invoice and expense coding within the ERP system.Oversee the accounts payable review process, ensuring accuracy in weekly payment runs.Bank Reconciliations & Accounts Receivable
Conduct weekly bank reconciliations, ensuring timely posting of entries and identifying process automation opportunities.Oversee the accounts receivable process, including :Ensuring the accounting department receives and properly files executed contracts and change orders.
Maintaining and updating milestone schedules, sworn statements, and lien waivers.Creating and processing invoices using industry-standard (AIA) formats and templates.Uploading invoices into the ERP system and recording payments upon receipt.Managing outstanding receivables through proactive collection efforts and adherence to internal collection plans.Organizing and maintaining financial documents in shared folders.Preparing and distributing internal AR and cash reports on a weekly basis.Compliance & Special Projects
Support internal, external, state, and local audits as required.Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives as they arise.Qualifications & Experience
Education & Knowledge
Bachelor's degree in Accounting.Minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience.Key Skills & Competencies
Detail-oriented and highly organized.Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems.Experience in multi-location, multi-entity, and / or multi-state operations.Effective communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.Preferred Experience
Experience in renewable energy or construction accounting.
