Primary Purpose
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
The T&S Projects & Standards Team is responsible for maintaining and developing design standards and engineering practices that ensure standardized, safe, and cost-effective substation designs. This position is responsible for a specific class of T&S Design Standards including template drawings, material specifications, Job Processes (JPBs), and Engineering Practices (EPBs) for substation voltages of 13kV, 34kV, 115kV, 230kV, and 500kV. This position serves as a Subject Matter Expert and design authority for substation design and engineering within T&S, with a focus on Protection and Control including protective relaying, local control systems, and SCADA applications. This consists of various responsibilities including reviewing, updating, and facilitating the development of T&S design and engineering standards, working closely with the various T&S groups to ensure effective standard implementation. This position also collaborates with the other Exelon companies and is involved in creating, updating, and applying internal/industry design standards and technology in a specialized area of expertise. This position is a recognized department, company, and industry expert in the area of substation protection and control and includes mentoring and providing direction to other engineers in the team and department.
Position may be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

Primary Duties
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Serves as a Subject Matter Expert for a specific class of T&S Design Standards including template drawings, material specifications, construction specifications (S-Sheets), Job Processes (JPBs), and Engineering Practices (EPBs) for substation voltages of 13kV, 34kV, 115kV, 230kV, and 500kV.
- Sets the direction and strategy for substation protection and control philosophy and applications for the T&S Large Projects Department.
- Mentors and provides direction to other engineers in T&S Standards & Projects Team and the other T&S Engineering Projects Team.
- Develops strategy and use cases for new protection and control technology and applications including but not limited to IEC61850, optical instrument transformers, DER/DEG, etc.
- Point of Contact for technical questions related to material application and design standards.
- Works with Vendors on material design improvements and implementation.
- Collaborates with Equipment Specialists, Protection & Control Engineering, Substation Engineering, Transmission Engineering, Capacity Planning, Transmission Reinforcement, Substation Operations & Maintenance, Relay Testing other field groups, etc. to set the design and material standards and applications while ensuring safety, effectiveness, and constructability of standards.
- Provides recommendations to management and implements action plans to improve reliability.
- Provides detailed technical training, mentorship, peer review, and/or guidance to others.
- Serves as an active, contributing member of applicable industry groups such as IEEE, EPRI, EEI, MEA, etc. including introducing new design improvement and materials.
- Investigate common point of failure modes and trends for the purpose of material or design standard improvements as well as supporting the analysis of extent of condition.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master of Science degree in Engineering or Licensed Professional Engineer.
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems.
- Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory.
- Knowledge of engineering designs, principles, and practices.
- 8 years of experience in specific areas of engineering and recognized industry expert (Requirement reduced by one year for Licensed Professional Engineer)
- Advanced knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, practices, and advanced engineering principles.
- Advanced knowledge of latest technologies necessary to perform a variety of specialized unique or complex assignments for various installation types of services.
- Industry expert who participates or leads industry committee or working groups or has published technical documents.
- Note: there are a limited number of personnel available in the industry with the required knowledge, ability, and experience. License must be issued by the state in which you are practicing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all management levels.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Power Systems-focused Graduate degree.
- Licensed Professional Engineering, Electrical Power focus.
- A working knowledge of applicable analysis software packages.
- Ability to analyze industry wide trends and implement enhancements.
- 7 years of substation engineering/design experience, specifically within the areas of protective relaying, control systems, and/or SCADA applications.
- Experience developing protective relaying and/or control systems/SCADA device settings.
- Substation project execution experience, including knowledge of key project deliverables (30/60/90/IFC, etc.)
- Experience with applying and/or developing standardized drawings, documents, etc. related to substation projects.
- Annual salary will vary based on a candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors:USD $120,000.00/Yr. - USD $180,000.00/Yr.
