Primary Purpose

The Quantitative Engineer will lead initiatives on developing quantitative methodologies and providing quantitative analysis to support engineering studies, plans, calculations, evaluations, design documents, integrated systems analysis, cost estimates, budgets, associated with the research, planning, design, operation, and maintenance of Exelon Utilities' overall strategic plans and initiatives. The Quantitative Engineer will develop and maintain quantitative analytical models and methodologies to identify trends and predict outcomes, provide explanations of the modeling and its results to management and senior leaders. The person will be responsible of monitoring and responding to business needs by staying abreast of developments in the energy industry and provide analysis/reports to meet those needs. Position may be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

Note: This is a hybrid position (in-office with remote flexibility). Employees are required to be in office at least three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). This position can sit anywhere in the Exelon service area: preferred locations - Baltimore,MD, Oakbrook Terrace IL, Newark, DE, Philadelphia and Washington, DC. This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.

Primary Duties

  • Leads and performs assignments in specialized areas requiring extensive quantitative analysis, research and engineering expertise.
  • Leads and performs tasks associated with critical or analytical engineering projects, develop and maintain quantitative analytical models and methodologies to identify trends and predict outcomes, provide explanations of the modeling and its results to management and senior leaders.
  • Evaluates, develops, implements and leads strategic and engineering projects that have significant financial and operational impact by applying quantitative analysis.
  • Participates in department planning, provide budget recommendations and monitor performance for the accomplishment of committed results.
  • Performs assignments while acting independently and may lead multi-discipline teams.
  • Serves as an expert in the quantitative engineering area.
  • Acts as an expert witness or provide expert opinions as required.
  • Provides recommendations and implements action plans to improve performance and cost effectiveness.
  • Provides training and/or guidance to others.
  • Participates in technical and industry societies and committees to enhance knowledge of new technologies or issues in areas of company interest.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate degree (MS or above) or Graduate level work in quantitative discipline (e.g., electrical engineering, industrial engineering, statistics, operations research, economics, computer science, data analytics, mathematics, physics, etc.).
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems, and provide quantitative engineering analysis
  • Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory.
  • Knowledge of engineering designs, principles and practices.
  • 8 years of professional engineering or quantitative analyst experience.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in unique areas of engineering expertise.
  • Detailed knowledge of applicable standards, codes methods, and practices unique to areas of expertise.
  • Ability to apply advanced engineering principles to identify and resolve complex issues.
  • Technical applications of complex subjects
  • Develops and executes complex technical proposals
  • Experience articulating business questions and using mathematical techniques to arrive at an answer using available data. Experience translating analysis results into business recommendations.
  • Draw on knowledge of programming in MATLAB, Python, R, C , SQL, VBA skills to develop and maintain the models that guide the company's engineering activities.
  • Minimum of three related career experiences (3) in quantitative and engineering discipline (i.e., changes in technical job responsibilities, which may or may not include a change in department) OR
  • Lead Member of a recognized industry committee

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all management levels.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated industry leadership & publication record (in quantitative/engineering discipline)
  • Demonstrated experience in complex multi-year research and analysis efforts
  • Demonstrated experience to expand R&D background to practical solutions (in quantitative/engineering discipline)
  • Professional Engineer's License (1), advanced technical degree, MBA or Project Management Certification
  • (1) License must be issued by the state in which you are practicing. (2) PE License reduces the OJT experience requirement by 1 year. (3) Career related experiences is defined as changes in technical job responsibilities and does not have to include a change in department
  • Solid utility engineering background with understanding of key utility processes and the ability to effectively communicate between technical analytics developer roles and internal customer engineering teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of utility datasets and practical understanding on how to leverage the datasets to extract meaningful insights from the data in planning, operations, and maintenance data domains both on distribution and transmission side of the business.
  • Understanding of the key parts of the data product development process and agile methodology from idea inception to product delivery and support.
  • 1 year of experience developing with the Azure AI stack (AI Foundry OpenAI AI Search)
  • 1 year of experience developing with an LLM orchestration framework such as langchain, promptflow, llamaindex
  • 1 year of experience in git, CI CD pipelines, docker, and or app deployment in Azure environments
  • 5 years of experience in Python development including Azure SDKs, streamlit, pandas
  • strong product sense and user research skills, with demonstrated capabilities of uncovering requirements and pain points
  • Strong knowledge of GIS, SCADA, OMS, AMI, MDS, Work Management and Asset Management datasets.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated industry leadership & publication record (in quantitative engineering discipline).
  • Demonstrated experience in complex multi-year research and analysis efforts.

  • Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $127,200.00/Yr. – $174,900.00/Yr.
