Primary Purpose
As a Principal Experience Designer, you will be responsible for evangelizing human-centered design (HCD) principles to set the standard as a valued member of a Design leadership team. We are looking for an experienced designer leader who is passionate about the design process, coaching others, and developing innovative design solutions with strong conceptual foundations. You will help shape the future of Exelon by leading the design of a wide range of digital technology, process, or service solutions.
The right candidate will have proven success in stakeholder management and channeling design eminence to address complex business and user needs. You will ensure the quality of design deliverables meet or exceed experience standards to take technology solutions from concept to market in collaboration with stakeholders and cross-functional team members. Candidates must also be motivated to contribute to the maturity and advancement of the Exelon Design Studio. Be prepared to tell a compelling story of skills, actions, and results to showcase your Design thought process and leadership. Please include portfolio as a link or attachment with your application.
Note: This is a hybrid position (in-office with remote flexibility). Employees are required to be in office at least three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).

Primary Duties
- Provide expert advice to a portfolio of complex technology solutions across business functions and investments. Advise on strategy to achieve business outcomes in partnership with cross-functional leaders and stakeholders to ensure successful execution of investments. (40%)
- Oversee and guide senior practitioners to inform best practices, detailed business requirements, quality benchmarks, and product specifications. Ensure design strategy aligns with business goals and targets. Lead and provide guidance in discovery, user research, service design initiatives to enable exceptional customer and employee experiences. Address conflict and performance challenges that impede team progression. (30%)
- Organize and lead effective communication plans and presentations to senior leaders and executives. Demonstrate capability to adapt to the changing needs of the situation and expert-level advisement skills. Author material for executive leadership related to customer and employee experience, such as case studies or whitepapers. (15%)
- Lead design practice areas and set goals to implement evolving industry best practices. Maintain awareness of technology trends and opportunities. Address challenges to improve quality, efficiency, and business outcomes. Set the direction, vision, and design methodology with a strong focus on experience design process, quality, and implementation strategies. Provide leadership to design systems and processes. Driving adoption, increasing accessibility, and ensuring continuous improvement across the organization. (10%)
- Provide input to People Managers on performance of personnel and assist in performance evaluations, career development, and recognition. (5%)
- Provides visionary leadership across multiple projects, reporting directly to senior management.

- Expertly forecasts resource needs, strategizes goals, and solves large-scale, complex business and technology problems.
- Drives the creation and implementation of solutions that achieve significant value capture and technological innovation.
- Maintains deep knowledge of design and technology and provides thought leadership at the organization level.
- Ensures exceptional experiences across digital products and services.
- Bachelor’s degree (IT, Computer Science, Web Design, User Experience, Design, Human Computer Interaction, Information Science, Human-Centered Computing, etc.) with 7-10 years relevant experience, or 10 years relevant experience without degree.
- Designs and builds elegant solutions to complex business problems, demonstrates resourcefulness and originality. Able to forecast design results based on limited and/or incomplete design criteria and ideas. Leads design projects from concept to launch. Demonstrates strong ability to sell vision to peers and senior management.
- Mastery of design tools, such as Figma, Sketch, and Adobe XD.
- Demonstrates expert proficiency and an exceptional level of mastery in digital accessibility. Ability to contribute to the development of accessibility standards or play a key role in advancing accessibility within organizations or communities.
- Demonstrates expert understanding of human-centered design principles and innovation methods to lead design thinking initiatives within organizations, coach and mentor others in the practice and drive innovation strategies.
- Demonstrates mastery of user research methods through strategic planning using advanced qualitative and quantitative methods.
- Expert communication and collaboration skills of design concepts and recommendations to stakeholders.
- Consistently provides coaching and counseling in creative and imaginative manner, setting a standard for others.
- Demonstrates mastery of Product Management in practical applications of a difficult nature. Demonstrates knowledge and development of product launch planning and implementation that address all the steps necessary to announce new or upgraded products and services.
- Ability to set standards for design file structures and labeling organizational best practices for project work.
- Knowledge of Agile development practices and experience using tools like Azure Dev Ops (ADO), JIRA, or GitHub.
- Demonstrates mastery of Data Analytics in practical applications. Analyzes and interprets data from various sources and prepares reports, charts, and tables summarizing data and analyses.
- Demonstrate expertise in designing comprehensive design system ecosystems that extend beyond UI components to encompass design principles, brand guidelines, design language, and design thinking methodologies and coordination with technology partners to implement the design system and values.
- Annual salary will vary based on a candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors:USD $124,000.00/Yr. - USD $186,000.00/Yr.
