What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Transporter position at Exeter Hospital?
Transportation of lab specimens to and from the Outpatient lab, Main Lab, and Blood Bank. Medications from the Pharmacy to Infusion and Oncology departments.
Requirements:
- High School or GED
- Strong customer service skills
Responsibilities:
1. Pick up and drop off all lab specimens to and from required locations, every 20 minutes without any detours while specimens are on person. (ie. Cafeteria, restrooms, break‑rooms)
2. Logs specimen pick up from outpatient lab and delivery to Main lab with time, date, and initials on transport logs.
3. Verbally informs Main lab of priority specimens being delivered.
4. Handles lab specimens only when primary container is in biohazard bags, and only transporting these specimens in completely closed lab transport cooler with orientation arrows up.
5. Knowledgeable of the biohazardous risks of specimen transport and the appropriate PPE to handle biological specimens.
6. Can appropriately handle specimens with temperature/light restrictions, ice/warm bath.
7. Complete the Blood Bank confirmation for sign out of blood bank products for delivery.
8. Delivers "fax backs" to the Outpatient lab for processing. Picks up and delivers supplies, lab items, and requisitions as requested.
9. Picks up Infusion meds from the Pharmacy and delivers to the Infusion Dept. Picks up Pharmacy totes from the Pharmacy and delivers to the Oncology Pharmacy, then returns the empty totes.
10. Performs other duties as required or assigned.
