This role involves a variety of tasks, including document filing, legal drafting, occasional research, and overall case management. We are looking for a reliable, organized, and detail-oriented Litigation Paralegal to support our attorneys and office staff. This role involves a variety of tasks, including document filing, legal drafting, occasional research, and overall case management. Ideal candidates excel in critical thinking, multitasking, and time management.
Primary Responsibilities
- E-filing documents with various courts
- Drafting litigation documents such as demand letters, complaints, motions, and discovery requests and responses
- Drafting and filing administrative agency charges and responses (e.g., with EEOC and IDHR)
- Reviewing and indexing discovery documents
- Managing case and file activities, tracking deadlines with minimal supervision
- Calculating and calendaring deadlines in firm’s management systems
- Conducting occasional legal research
- Timely entering billing data (average 25 hours/week)
- Effective communication with staff, clients, co-counsel, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders
- Participating in weekly team meetings
- Utilizing creative and analytical skills for problem-solving
- Assisting in training new hires as needed
- Performing additional duties as required
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a litigation paralegal role
- Essential skills: common sense, critical thinking, time management, organization, teamwork, clear communication
- Ability to follow directions respectfully and attentively
- Desire to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Capacity to work independently, self-monitor, and self-manage
- Professionalism in conduct and manner representative of the firm
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency in MS Office, case management software, and electronic filing
- Excellent research and analytical skills
- Initiative and commitment to high-quality work
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Paralegal certification preferred; prior employment law experience is a plus
- Supervisory experience is strongly preferred
- Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Occasional additional hours based on firm needs
- Hybrid schedule: 3 days in office after initial 90 days of full in-office work
